But is there any historical evidence about the real man on which this jolly old character is based? Join us at St. Nicholas Orthodox Church (3171 S. 48th Street in Springdale) as we learn the impor- tant story of St. Nicholas, a third-century Chris- tian bishop, who became a patron of churches, countries, children, and sailors throughout the world. He is beloved by all Christians: Orthodox, Catholic, and Protestant. What do we really know about St. Nicholas? What is considered myth or legend? We will present the portrait of a coura- geous man of God and Christian leader who stood for truth and profoundly impacted the cul- ture in which he lived. OR WAS IT 3000? DESCRIPTION: The Tulsa Race Massacre stands out as one of the "worst acts of racial violence in American history" and, for decades, it remained one of the least known. Over the course of 18 hours, from May 31 to June 1, 1921, a white mob attacked residents, homes and businesses in the predominantly Black Green- wood neighborhood of Tulsa, Oklahoma, erasing years of Black success. News reports were largely squelched for decades, despite the fact that hun- dreds of people were killed and thousands were left homeless. Doug Talbott, history hobbyist, and Hugh Earnest will bring together their research and try to explain why the tragedy at Greenwood was willfully buried in history and what this incalculable and enduring loss of what could have been has shaped the next generation of Black children and grandchildren. You will see the architecture that creates the Proscenium Arch stage and all the mechani- cal features that make it work from curtains to props to scenery.
