WebLinks celebritypipeline By Jay Bobbin Why 'The $100,000 Pyramid' seems very familiar sometimes Q: Are this sum- mer's episodes of "The $100,000 Pyr- amid" new? I saw one with Lindsey Vonn that I thought I had seen before. – Gary Andrews, Lancaster, Pa. A: Most of them are new, but there's been a mix … and yes, that Lindsey Vonn episode aired a couple of times earlier. The ABC game show hosted by Michael Strahan is running new episodes on Sundays, and if repeats show up, those generally are on other nights such as Wednesdays. The same thing happened with an encore installment that featured Sara Haines of "The View" and "The Chase," who had been a co-host of the weekday "GMA3" with Strahan before that show changed format during the coronavirus pandemic. Part of the gift of game shows such as "The $100,000 Pyramid" is that they are so repeatable, which is why they've also become staples of Game Show Network. And certain celebrity players return from season to season – Cedric the Entertainer and RuPaul Charles are among those who have played multiple times – so it sometimes can be confusing as to whether an ABC broadcast of the game is a repeat or not. Q: I was interested in the Rock Hudson docu- mentary on HBO. I know it mentioned that he had done "McMillan and Wife," and there were clips from his time on "Dynasty," but didn't he do another television series as well? – Len Case, via e-mail A: The actor also starred in the NBC mystery "The Devlin Connec- tion" in the fall of 1982, a year after it had been scheduled to debut (Hudson needed to recover from emergency heart bypass surgery). The show didn't last long, though, being canceled after 13 episodes. Hudson also starred in a couple of limited series – or "miniseries," which was the more popular term at that time – the first of which was a 1978 adaptation of the Arthur Hailey auto-industry novel "Wheels," which the recent HBO documentary referenced. A couple,of years after that, Hudson made a TV version of author Ray Bradbury's "The Martian Chronicles," in which he played a character named John Wilder … which also happened to be the name of the executive producer of "The Devlin Connection."
