WebLinks celebritypipeline By Jay Bobbin The lights are off at "American Auto" Q: Will "Amer- ican Auto" be back? – Dan- ielle Marks, Grand Junc- tion, Colo. A: It won't. It took a while for NBC to make the deci- sion, but after two seasons, the network decided not to con- tinue the workplace sitcom that included Ana Gasteyer and Harriet Dyer. How- ever, executive pro- ducer Justin Spitzer – who also made "Superstore" – will have another show on NBC next season: the hospital comedy "St. Denis Medical" with Wendi McLendon-Covey, coming directly off her decade-long run on ABC's "The Goldbergs," and David Alan Grier. Q: I was sorry to learn of Treat Williams' passing. What was the last project he made? – Cliff Ryan, via e-mail A: It has yet to be seen, since the much-respected and widely beloved actor completed filming it earlier this year. He appears as longtime CBS boss William S. Paley in the next installment of FX's and executive producer Ryan Murphy's "Feud" anthology, which focuses on writer Truman Capote (played by Tom Hollander) and his complicated relationships with several of the women in his life. Naomi Watts, Diane Lane, Calista Flockhart and Chloe Sevigny also are featured in the drama, which was directed by Gus Van Sant ("Drugstore Cowboy") and written by playwright Jon Robin Baitz ("The Substance of Fire"). The prolific Williams also had finished the forthcoming movie "Ameri- can Outlaws," in which his character is a lawman on the trail of three siblings who are on a crime spree across the country. Those who admired his plentiful work – which also included such Hallmark Channel projects as "Chesapeake Shores" in recent years – should be comforted to know that Williams will remain frequently visible on television for a very long time, if only for the recurring roles he played on "Blue Bloods" and "Chicago Fire." Those series are repeated so often on multiple outlets (as well as being available via streaming), his episodes will continue to come up with guaranteed regularity. Q: Was the final episode of "Friends" an hour long? – Jane Sheridan, Harrisburg, Pa. A: Technically, yes, though they were advertised as being two separate half-hours … with the second one running right after the first in May 2004, and both halves expectedly earning huge ratings for NBC. They're typically repeated together when the episode runs in repeats now, but just in case, the first part ends at a logi- cal point – with Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow) driving Ross (David Schwimmer) to the airport to stop Rachel (Jennifer Aniston) from leaving for Paris. The "Friends" finale is the fifth highest-rated se- ries ending in television history.
