In 2026, just three years from now, the United States will commemo- rate the Semiquincentennial and the 250th anniversary of the Decla- ration of Independence. The Library of Congress, along with other Federal agencies, will be taking part in this commemora- tion. They will be sharing the great collections and insights from the incredible staff, and inviting you to rediscover the Library of Congress for yourself. In the lead-up to this milestone, the America250 Commission has launched America's Invitation, a nationwide campaign for all Ameri- cans to share stories and hopes and dreams for our future. America's Invitation is an oppor- tunity for Americans across the country, from every background, to take part in reflecting on our past and looking to the future by shar- ing their stories, and the things they love about America, as we continue to strive for "a more perfect union." Taking part in America's Invitation is easy — visit stories.america250. org to share photos, videos, artwork, essays, songs, poems, or anything else that highlights what America means to you and how you hope to commemorate this milestone. This content may be showcased by Amer- ica250 on its website, in videos, on social media, and more. America turns 250 in 2026 Together, these contributions will highlight what makes America unique and ensure we are building a com- memoration that includes all of us. The U.S. Semiquincentennial Com- mission was established by Con- gress in 2016 to plan and orches- trate the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States. The nonpartisan Commission, chaired by former Treasurer of the United States Rosie Rios, is working with the America250 Foundation to en- gage Americans across the country in designing the largest and most inclusive anniversary observance in our nation's history. And so far, at least 33 states have created commissions, while institu- tions across the country are steam- ing ahead with plans for exhibitions and events of their own. Beyond simply celebrating the Revolution, the "Semiquincenten- nial" commemoration is also an opportunity to share American his- tory in ways that fully explore the diverse people and complex events of our country's past. "We want this to be the most com- prehensive and inclusive commem- oration this country has ever seen," Rios said.
