OZARK LIVING • J U LY 2023 • 27 I retired from my office job a few years ago as the winery became busier and began working full time at the winery as well." For the past two years, Gretchen Smith has also been helping them keep up with customers and events at the winery. In 2018 House Beautiful magazine sent out a legion of wine connoisseurs on a mission to identify the single best winery in every state. Fiy wineries were selected across the United States and the one chosen to represent Arkansas… that's right: Railway Winery! Here's what their reviewer had to say: "We loved this quaint little winery. e owners were knowledgeable and friendly. We enjoyed a free tasting and stayed and shared a bottle on location. Bought several bottles to take home. A must-visit." And it's not just the critics who are fans of Railway. Check out a few of the many 5-Star Yelp reviews this small farm winery has garnered over the years: "Great place to visit right outside Beaver, AR and about 10 min from Eureka Springs, AR. Great atmosphere and plenty of outdoor seating overlooking the vineyards. Wine is good and they also have a nice little cocktail menu. Very relaxing place and the owners are exceptional people with great attitudes." ~ Rob H. "An excellent stop on the scenic Route 187, this small, Mom-and-Pop winery provides samples of any 4 wines for $6. My wife and I ordered differently so we could taste 8 in total and we enjoyed all of them. We had our own picnic lunch with us and we enjoyed the meal and drinks together on the shaded, well fanned deck. We also enjoyed a red wine slush, a welcome treat on such a hot day. Also, the owners were very friendly and talkative... a great place to enjoy a couple of hours." ~ Mark R. "is is a great find on the outskirts of Eureka Springs and Beaver! ey offer tastings, by the glass, and bottles. ey also have beer for non-wine drinkers. e husband-wife pair that run it were super friendly and answered all our questions. ere were about 12 wines to choose from. We grabbed some glasses and sat on the patio for a beautiful November Saturday. Plenty of seating inside (for tastings) and outside for hanging out. Lovely spot!" ~ Jill H. "We have been doing this for 15 years now and owe much to our friends and family who have helped in so many ways whenever assistance was needed," Greg said. "ey have been there to plant grapevines, put in trellis posts, harvest, and help with crush and bottling." "is is truly a family affair," Vicki added. "We are very lucky to have such loyal friends and family. We also want to be sure and thank our repeat customers who visit whenever they are in our area. It's always a treat to know that people want to come back to see us and enjoy our wines and now, our spirits." If you are looking to make a nice excursion just outside of Eureka Springs in the Ozarks, Railway Winery and Butler Creek Distilling is the perfect destination. Lovely wines, great spirits and a relaxing aernoon tasting, chatting and, of course, purchasing some great wine and spirits to take home.
