2 UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS B ob Stanley '94 is a licensed professional engineer in 14 states, 2003 Young Engineer of the Year, and the managing director of Walker Consultants' Western region. But before all these accomplishments, he was simply a young man on campus looking for a sense of community. When Bob found Delta Chapter during spring recruitment, he knew the brotherhood's balance of academic and social experiences was right for him. DELTA DAYS "I would not have been able to achieve all that I have had I not been accepted as a pledge in the spring of '89," Bob states. His active years had a healthy mix of fun and responsibility, including enjoying his pledge walkout to Angola, Indiana, as well as being chairman for two Homecoming floats. While Bob's active years were fun, they also taught him leadership duties as social chairman, house manager, CWCC, vice chief, and ultimately chief. He even served as chapter counselor during graduate school, replacing Keith Brandau '83. "I learned a lot of leadership from participating in the house." After college, Bob began working with the Illinois Department of Transportation before joining Keith's private firm in Champaign as a project structural engineer. "It was a small firm, and I got to learn a lot about everything from bridge design to forensics and geotechnical work." WORKING WITH WALKER In late 1996, Bob joined Walker Consultants. "Walker is a very family- oriented, employee-owned company and known to be the world's leading expert in parking," Bob mentioned. Transferring to Denver, Bob continued to climb the ranks to the director role he holds today. Bob urges today's undergraduates to find places that will challenge them to grow, like Sigma Phi Delta and Walker did for him. He is proud to remain connected, including taking vacations with alumni brothers, and he was especially pleased to see the recent updates to the chapter house. Bob and his wife, Stephanie, celebrated their 25th anniversary in July 2022. They have two children: Hannah (23) is working toward an anesthesiology assistant career, while Jake (18) is studying computer science at the Colorado School of Mines. Since becoming empty nesters, Bob and Stephanie are building a home in Larkspur, Colorado. In his spare time, Bob rides his Ducati through the mountains, scuba dives, golfs, and races his Shelby GT350 in autocross. You can connect with Bob at bmwbob1995@gmail.com. "I was happy to see us make an investment in the house renovation, and I hope the actives are enjoying the new digs. I got to see it for the first time in many years this past Homecoming. The house is an important hub for developing relationships that will last a lifetime, which is why I was compelled to help in the cause."
