From the Heart A PUBLICATION FOR ALUMNI OF INDIANA ALPHA t SIGMA PHI EPSILON Sigma Phi Epsilon-Indiana Alpha Purdue University P.O. Box 442100 Lawrence, KS 66044-2100 Address Service Requested T his is really happening! The reoccupation of 690 Waldron by Sigma Phi Epsilon, which was expected to be in the fall of 2024, happened two years ahead of schedule, as the women of Kappa Delta sorority completed their new house construction very early. We were able to have access to the house while still collecting a good share of the rent. The men started using the house as a study, relaxation, and meeting place around Thanksgiving 2022, and after the completion of our renovations beginning in June, we will welcome 30 live-in brothers in August! The Kappa Deltas left us a home that, although still needing extensive renovations, is nicer than any of us have ever experienced at 690 Waldron. The renovation will begin with the piece-by-piece removal of the most significant architectural feature of our house—the red clay tile roof! We will then repair the substructure and reinstall the original tiles. Hopefully, this component will be complete by Homecoming 2023. At the same time, we will demolish the old cold-air dorm and start building a series of sleeping rooms, study areas, and bathrooms. The subsequent phases will involve gutting and rebuilding the existing sleeping rooms on the first and second floors as well as remodeling the Great Hall, basement, dining room, and kitchen. As we mention on page 3, the work will be performed by Larson-Danielson Construction of LaPorte, Indiana, run by alumni Tim '77 and Terry Larson '80, who generously donated their fees to the project. As any of you who are being affected by rising interest rates and inflation can attest, trying to complete this project within the original budget is a major challenge. We still need your donations to make this the best house possible!
