As the University attempts to recover from an enrollment decline (from 2,489 down to under 1,700 over the past dozen years) exacerbated by COVID strains while facing a coming demographic-enrollment cliff for all college-aged prospects, we share concerns regarding recruitment and finances for both the Chapter and the house corporation in the coming years. OUR PRESENCE ON CAMPUS Not to be outdone, our venerable 446 residence is now 97 years old! While we've kept it up to date with safety and structural issues, keeping it attractive for tomorrow's students will remain a challenge. As we've highlighted in recent years, Indiana Zeta steers through these challenging waters from a position of strength. House corporation finances are among the strongest among fraternities on campus, and the Chapter remains among the largest and most visible at DePauw! When you are around our undergraduates, you are indeed proud to be a Phi. ALUMNI SUPPORT What we've learned thus far during the strategic planning process is that alumni brothers remain both proud of your Phi Delt experience as well as energized to support our student brothers. In fact, over three quarters of survey respondents would be willing to offer career and/or one-on-one mentoring to undergraduate Phis, and about half would be able to dedicate a couple hours per month to help Indiana Zeta! The planning committee is still at work and will have the report available as the summer unfolds. We will dedicate the next edition of The DePauw Phi to the report and the next steps needed to fulfill its prescriptions. As always, we welcome your thoughts and offers to help in any way.
