May has arrived in Quartzsite as many of us are fl eeing to cooler climes and other pursuits, catching up with family and friends, bringing our wintertime stories back with us. And, if you're reading this, bring- ing your local news home, too. Last month's editorial deals with the sto- ries we hear, and the stories we tell, pointing to the advent of misinfor- mation, which has always been with us in some form, but which has spi- raled out of control with the advent of instant information. That's important to remember: lies and liars will follow us no matter who or what controls what we hear and see. Critical thinking often goes by the wayside. My take on this? Question everything. Use Google to cross-index things that sound bi- ased or slanted. All the controls in the world won't stop misinforma- tion, and I think it's a mistake to think Facebook or Google should be trusted to put people in charge of what you are able to see. In the 1970s, we were asked to Question Authority. Today it's easy to do.
