From Half to Three Out of Four We received three of the four pillars for our efforts on campus in 2022. The "Pillars of Excellence" grading system is a technique the University of Memphis implemented to ensure that fraternities and sororities are doing more for the school. We have shown vast improvement from the previous year when we only earned two pillars. Philanthropy over the Holidays The first event was a canned food drive to benefit the St. Vincent De Paul Society. Our Chapter was able to donate over 600 cans in a little over a week's time to help feed those in need during Thanksgiving. Before Christmas, Philanthropy Chairman Alex Nelson '24 and I organized a toy drive to benefit Le Bonheur Children's Hospital's "Bunny Lane." During this tradition, children who are getting surgery ride through the toy forest and pick out a toy that will be waiting for them once the procedure is complete. Through the efforts of the undergraduates, we accumulated over 150 toys to donate to Le Bonheur. These philanthropic events, as well as the $45,000 we raised for the Special Olympics during 2022, were key factors to the Chapter earning three pillars of excellence. Academic Acceleration Our academic success did not waver either. We were able to boost our GPA from a 3.11 in spring 2022 to a 3.28 in the fall. This academic achievement was another reason we received three pillars. We are proud that 32 brothers earned a place on the Dean's List, and 10 brothers achieved a perfect 4.0. Keeping Busy on Campus As far as involvement goes, we have numerous brothers who serve as tour guides on campus, including Levi Latimer '25, Raphael Jamias '25, and Wes Bolton '25. Creating Leaders The Chapter's executive committee had the opportunity to attend a Dual-Province Workshop at Austin Peay State University in March and looks forward to implementing all that was shared with us to continuously improve our Sigma Chi Chapter. Epsilon Kappa has been in a constant state of improvement, and we are looking to do even more as the school year comes to a close. In Hoc, Carson Kane '24 Consul kckane@memphis.edu
