In Hoc, Thomas Ratliff '07 MidSouth Alumni Chapter President Proud to Be a Sigma Chi Middleton "Bunky" Wingfield III '68 Is Always Willing to Serve the Brotherhood M iddleton "Bunky" Wingfield III '68, a proud Sigma Chi alumnus, has been making an impact in both his professional and personal life since he started college. Born in Jacksonville, Florida, Bunky moved to Memphis when he was 5 years old. When he started college, he wanted the opportunity to connect with other men like him who would eventually develop and transform him into the man he is today. His older brother, William '63, brought him into the fraternity. From there, the bonds he made continued to develop. Notably, his Big Brother, Sam George '65, and his Little Brother, Don Wilson '68, were remarkable individuals who helped shape his dedication to Sigma Chi's values and his love for the fraternity. Bunky shares that the values continued with him after graduation, and he has come to learn that, "If you live by the standard and the values, everything else will fall in line." During his time at the University of Memphis, Bunky was involved in the fraternity; he served as vice president of the freshman class and president of the sophomore class. Holding these positions demonstrates his passion for leadership and dedication to making a positive impact within the fraternity. After college, Bunky worked at After Six Formal Wear for 32 years, where he achieved remarkable professional success. His commitment to Sigma Chi, however, never wavered. "Once you are a Sigma Chi, you are a Sigma Chi for life. The bonds and experiences you make are never broken," he said. After retiring from After Six, Bunky was led back to Sigma Chi to share his experiences and to teach current members what he has learned throughout his life. In 2005, he started working for Personal Pharmacy Care, where he now serves as president. For the past 20 years, Bunky has been an essential member of the housing committee, where he diligently works to maintain and advance the housing for Epsilon Kappa Chapter. His own experiences inspired him to take the initiative to improve what used to be lacking. "Whenever I was in school, the House Corporation and alumni base weren't involved much," he recalled. "It helps to have people around who show that they care, and doing this is an important part of my life." This continues to prove his love for Sigma Chi and his work ethic. Every time he checks in on the Chapter House, he reminds current brothers he is always available to assist them with any issues. Looking at the current generation of Sigma Chi members, Bunky is extremely optimistic of the future of the brotherhood and is happy with the way the fraternity has continued to improve. "Seeing the Peterson Awards achieved and the philanthropic and academic success of the Chapter truly makes me proud to be a Sigma Chi," he shared. He has continued to mentor and inspire current brothers from his legacy, which has led to ever-striving success today. Bunky and his wife, Nina, have been married for 40 years, and are proud parents and grandparents. Notably, two of his sons, Robert '09 and Jacob '10, eventually became brothers of Sigma Chi. He continues to support the community and manage his business. In his off time, he enjoys golfing and going to the beach.
