2 Gamma Crescent T he young men of Gamma Chapter devote themselves not just to academics at Penn State, but also to the unique opportunity to grow through brotherhood. Lynn Dietrich '70 (Γ987) was encouraged to join AGR by John Tallman '69 (Γ956), and he found the chance to elevate his college experience with new responsibilities and lifelong connections. Lynn joined Gamma Chapter with roommate Keith Masser '70 (Γ985) and a couple of other friends, and his social circle began to grow as he met brothers from different backgrounds. Serving as house manager for two years, Lynn gained new responsibilities alongside his agricultural engineering studies. An Agricultural Focus Thanks to a recommendation from John Johnston '71 (Γ1000), Lynn joined Grove Manufacturing after college in 1973 (now part of Manitowoc Inc.) From growing up on a farm to working on agricultural equipment, Lynn has enjoyed great success in the industry through four decades with the same company. "I grew with the business, now a $2 billion annual revenue concern, while retaining my farm roots," Lynn shared. While some projects have been global affairs, Lynn stays grounded by his agricultural background and the values he found through AGR. Penn State Principles Lynn's college years culminated in a light class load alongside 20 fellow Gamma seniors, but it wasn't just luck that earned this group the highest fraternity GPA. Through his adult life, Lynn felt a responsibility to give back to Penn State for his exceptional college years. "I have participated in seminars and classes as a guest speaker, been on and chaired the IPAC curriculum review committee, supported the 1/4-scale tractor-pulling team (Penn State Pullers), provided factory tours and internships, and recruited and hired many Penn State graduates." Serving the University These are just a few of Lynn's many contributions to Penn State, though the largest duty has been his election to the Penn State Board of Trustees. After retiring from Manitowoc, Trustee President Keith Masser recruited Lynn to help keep Penn State on the right track. "A good experience has been trying to help steer the university in the right direction," Lynn said, "But the best part is graduation and seeing students enter the real world." While tuition rates and fees are a tough burden to navigate, Lynn is glad to utilize his AGR network to build connections for Penn State throughout Pennsylvania. His college experience was critical to a successful adult life, and Lynn does everything he can to enhance the lives of today's students. Lynn recently celebrated his 50th anniversary with Joyce, and their three children all went to Penn State. Two of the three even met their spouses at the university, and Lynn now has a grandson hoping to study agricultural engineering at Penn State. You can connect with Lynn at dietrichauctions@comcast.net. I am a junior at Penn State pursuing a bachelor's degree in finance, accompanied with a minor in supply chain and information sciences and technology. I have been a member of Gamma Chapter for over a year now. What attracted me to this outstanding fraternity was the camaraderie and fellowship between all our brothers, and in addition, how hard we constantly push each other to new limits each and every day. I was personally seeking to grow and develop my financial and leadership skills, which is why I decided to pursue the vice noble ruler of finance position. Through this highly honorable role, I find my communication, leadership, and financial skills being tested at all times. I am so thankful for this role because of how much I've already learned when it concerns the finances of the organization as well as the goals that we strive to achieve as a chapter every year. My budgeting and planning skills have grown immensely since I first started, and it has been a pleasure to learn and connect with our proud Gamma alumni board along the way. Nowhere else throughout Penn State can one be granted the opportunity of taking on a position with ample real-world application and responsibilities on such an advanced level. Through my endless rigorous pursuit toward success, my willingness to learn and grow, and my deep interest and motivation for Gamma Chapter, I know that I hold the potential to expand our financial success past boundaries unlike ever before.
