A trophy will be awarded to the high premium individual. Note: Premiums gained here will count in 4-H Club competition. Premiums will be paid to both adults and juniors. General rules: A. Entry youth (5-19) and Adults (20+) unless otherwise noted. 1. An entry must have been grown by exhibitor living or farming in Benton County. 2. Exhibits must be entered in name of the grower. 3. Exhibitors may enter only ONE (1) exhibit in each numbered category. Species or variety name of crop entered will be required when entering. 4. Judging will be Monday 5. The Fair Board will furnish containers for all items except seed, silage, and garden collections. 6. Incorrect identification of exhibit will result in disqualification for exhibition. 7. Exhibits will be accepted, recorded, numbered, and placed on display by the superintendent or his/her assistants. 8. No one will be allowed to change an exhibit after it has been placed on display. 9. Any exhibit showing signs of spoilage during exhibition may be disposed of by the superintendent. 10. All Division/Classification available for Adult or Youth (up to age19) exhibitors, except class 83. B. removal of Exhibits 1. To receive ribbons, exhibit must be picked up by exhibitor. 2. Any exhibit remaining after the pick- up time will be disposed of by the superintendent. C. Judging 1. Judging will be done by representatives of the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service. All exhibitors are reminded that judging is based on soundness, uniformity, freedom from foreign matter and imperfections, appearance, typical color, and typical size and shape of variety presented. Thus, the correct species or variety name must be specified to the superintendent or his designee at the time of check-in. Extra care in selection, preparation, and care prior to entry will not only add to the excellence of the Benton County Fair but may also be a determining factor in the competition. To learn more about quality standards required for horticultural entries, contact the Benton County Cooperative Extension Service. 2. The Danish System of judging will be used. In this system, entries are judged against accepted crop quality standards. Entries of suitable quality will receive a blue, red, or white ribbon. a. Blue Ribbon: meets or exceeds product standards and meets exhibit requirements; overall the entry is of very high quality. b. Red Ribbon: meets minimum product standards and exhibit requirements; the entry is of average quality. c. White Ribbon: Serious or considerable deficiencies in meeting product standards and/or exhibit requirements. d. If quality of entry is exceptionally poor, the judge may choose not to award a ribbon. e. The decision of the judge will be final. 3. No entry containing fewer than the required number of items will be judged.
