6. If you are able to visit the inside of the
building, describe it.
7. Are there other buildings in the area that
look like this one? What makes it similar or
different?
8. What man-made objects do you see
nearby? Look for things like buildings, roads and
train tracks.
9. What naturally occurring features do you
see nearby? Look for things like trees, hills and
water.
10. What do you think this area looked like in
the past?
11. What do you think the future of this
building is?
12. How would the loss of this building affect
the neighborhood and community?
how can we help preserve history in our
community?
There can be several reasons why some
communities have many historical sites and some
have only a few. Sometimes, due to progress,
historic buildings are torn down and newer
buildings are built in their place. Sometimes
communities don't have people who value the
past or that will work to preserve the sites.
Are there any historic sites or buildings in your
community that aren't on the list? Could you
discuss this with your teacher, perhaps make it a
class project and work with government officials
to make it happen? Certainly, you can! Recently,
students in Alma established historical markers
and preserved history events in their area. You
can do it too! All it takes is making the move
from caring about our past to caring for it.
