"When I lived here, I was surrounded by some very impressive young men. I knew immediately I was very fortunate to be in that group, and it pulled me forward, no doubt. It pulled me out of my shell, gave me confidence that I belonged here. Those are lessons that have stuck with me my entire life." Marc Westhoff '91, Nu 1849 with son Truman '23, Nu 2591 "We had great guys in the house, great people that followed us, great people in front of us. It's just amazing to see all the things people have accomplished in their lives. You can't duplicate that anywhere else." Tim McFerrin '85, Nu 1705 2 138 YEARS of BROTHERHOOD I n the spring of 1884, six KU students organized themselves as a "secret anti-secret" group to undermine the unwarranted influence that two fraternities had over student elections. On June 21, 1884, these same six men received the initial charter for Nu Chapter of Sigma Nu, the fraternity's 10th chapter and the first located west of the Mississippi River. In the 138 years since Joel Howard became Nu 1, Nu Chapter has enhanced the lives of more than 2,500 (and counting) members. While KU educates the brain, Nu Chapter teaches values (Love, Honor, Truth), life skills (leadership, organization, teamwork), and brotherhood. For many, these traits became integral to our personal and career success and helped make us the men we are today. STUBBS MANSION on WINDMILL HILL W e are in a unique position as alumni brothers to shape the future of Nu Chapter and its greatest asset: Stubbs Mansion. It has always been a differentiating factor between Sigma Nu and other fraternities. Not just the building itself, but also how Stubbs Mansion—its history, traditions, and upkeep—is interwoven into our members. If we wish for Sigma Nu to maintain its top-tier status on campus and in recruiting, however, we must provide a safe, comfortable, and modern facility where our members can live and thrive. As other KU fraternities and the KU dorm system upgrade their residential offerings, our beloved collegiate home is no longer the golden gem it once was. We will reestablish the Governor's Mansion as the premier Greek property, "the (Black and) Gold Standard" among all KU fraternity houses. Photo WHERE WHERE TRADITION TRADITION BEGINS BEGINS
