I would like to take this opportu- nity to thank several people for sup- porting our efforts to raise money to buy the plaques that are being put on the six monuments that are in the Heroes Bell Gardens in Celia's Rainbow Gardens. The Chamber of Commerce held an Art Walk a few months ago, and I was invited to hold a bake sale at the event. We raised $180. At that time. Thanks to all the baked goods that were donated. Recently we held another bake sale at the new Quartzsite Glow balloon event Thanks to Kurt and Larry for donating a space for the sale and to Kris for the easy up and everything else she helped with. A group of Des- ert Singles many from Canada, also brought many baked items for the sale. The wind shut us down early but we still raised another $150. Thanks also to the Desert Singles group who came out to the Gardens the day before the Heroes Appreci- ation Ceremony and cleaned up all around the area. They did an awe- some job and its really appreciated. I also want to thank everyone who came out to celebrate our Heroes on Mar. 4 We got the three new plaques for the Quartzsite Police, Quartzsite Fire Dept. and Salvation Army on the monuments now and will add more as funding allows. The ceremony was very special, with representatives from several groups being honored. Lane Collier stood in for Chief Hess, and Chief Romo spoke on behalf of the Po- lice. The VFW and Brothers of the Rogue motorcycles led the honor guard. New Commander Saxton of the American Legion also spoke and Preacher John said opening and closing prayers. Sonja Bartel from Skyhawk played Taps. Thank you to Lonnie and Nicci from Public Works for getting the plaques mounted and for all the other help getting ready for the day. And Thank You to everyone who came and made it such a spe- cial event. Thank you to Vice Mayor Lynda Goldberg and Council Mem- ber Starr BearCat for attending. We will be holding another Bake Sale and Yard Sale at Reader's Oa- sis Bookstore on March 25 and 26 to raise more funds to order more plaques. Donations of baked goods are needed as well as any items for the yard sale. They can brought to the bookstore just before that week- end. It will be greatly appreciated and help us get those monuments all dressed up!! Joanne Winer Celia's Rainbow Gardens Welcome Back Snowbirds!
