12 | 2023 Siloam Springs community guide been challenging for the world and libraries are definitely feeling it, too. In-person library usage has greatly changed for most libraries, and we're at a point where we can't just do what we've always done. In taking the position here in Siloam, I'm excited to navigate these changes with library staff, the building and the community. I'm loving asking the questions like "What's working?" and "Who isn't using the library and how do we engage with them?" and "How can we be the best library for Siloam Springs?" What kinds of programs and opportunities does the library offer residents? Currently the library has activities throughout the month for all ages. We have weekly storytimes, builders' clubs (think LEGOs, K'nex, anything building) and book clubs. We recently started a monthly Sit 'n Stitch where quilters, knitters, crocheters, crossstitchers, and the like are encouraged to bring whatever project they are working on and visit with other stitchers. We're working with a group of teens as we relaunch our Teen Advisory group. We have begun visiting the Siloam Springs Senior Activity Center every other week with a collection of items to check out, to visit with library staff, and get tech assistance with online library resources. Anyone who lives within the city limits of Siloam Springs or has Siloam Springs utilities is eligible for a free library card. Nonresidents are $10 per year for adults and $5 per year for children. Why do you think libraries are essential to a community? Libraries might be the last place you can go and there is no expectation of a transaction. Anyone can come in and just be. On any given day, libraries bring together folks from every walk of life. Libraries also help level the playing field when it comes to information access, whether it's through books, the internet, etc. What are your impressions of Siloam Springs? My husband and I moved "all the way" from Prairie Grove, where we had been living for the previous 11 years. I have lived most of my life in Arkansas, with most of that being in Northwest Arkansas. Maybe I'm biased, but I think we have one of the best areas in the country. I'm loving Siloam Springs even more than I thought I would. Siloam has just about everything one could need and more. I'm loving the people, the food options and the green spaces. ere's a great little farmers market; there are several great festivals; and even though Siloam Springs has a lot to offer, it's really easy to access the other great spots in Northwest Arkansas and Northeast Oklahoma. continued from page 11 Stephanie Freedle
