Cake at the Cascade Redding will finally get a piece of Cake when the Cascade brings this Sacramento band to the stage on Friday Aug. 23 at 7:30 p.m. This is the hottest ticket in town so act fast. Out of Northern California's flat, dry central valley, Cake formed in the early nineties as a somewhat antagonistic answer to grunge. The band intentionally made their music as small as possible and listeners went crazy for this "utterly fresh sound." As a result of a rather scruffy and lowtech approach, Cake was forced to learn how to play to a room, how to entertain and deliver to the smallest, seediest dive bar or the largest outdoor amphitheater. By maintaining their ideals while continuing to challenge themselves artistically and professionally, Cake has managed to not only survive, but to thrive as a true American alternative rock band. Tickets are $49 to $69 and are available at the Cascade Theatre Box Office at 1733 Market St. in Redding, by phone at (530) 243-8877 or directly through the Cascade Theatre website at www.cascadetheatre.org. The 2013-14 Cascade Theatre Performance Series is generously sponsored by US Bank and Jefferson Public Radio.
