Cooper Memorial Chapel. e ancient meets the contemporary in this spectacular chapel of repeated Gothic arches constructed with modern materials of glass and steel. e structure, built in 1988, was designed by architects E. Faye Jones, a protégé of Frank Lloyd Wright, and Maurice Jennings of Fayetteville. Set in the woods and overlooking Lake Norwood, the chapel was commissioned by John Cooper aer his beloved wife, Mildred, died. He envisioned the chapel as a way to honor her deep spirituality, love of nature, and devotion to her family and church. e chapel's serenity and awe-inspiring proximity to nature makes it the ideal place for weddings and vow renewals, baptisms, memorial services and cultural events. Cooper Chapel is located at 504 Memorial Drive in Bella Vista and is open to the public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Bella Vista is a true wonderland for mountain bikers, hikers and every sort of outdoor adventurer. ere are over 54 trails covering 152 miles with breathtaking views of natural beauty. e Bella Vista trails system is divided into three categories, with features suitable for varying ages and preferences. 1. e first are those owned by the Property Owners Association and include Tanyard Creek Nature Trail, the Branchwood Trail and the Loch Lomond Trail. Tanyard Creek is an easy loop of 2.2 miles that leads to a swinging bridge, a view of Lake Windsor Waterfall, Tanyard Creek and other scenic attractions. e Branchwood Trail is a 1.5- mile closed loop that begins and ends at the recreational center. It's an easy walk on a hard-surface, 8-foot-wide path and is especially popular for families with children who have fun on the playground at the rec center while Mom and Dad can watch them from convenient benches. e Loch Lomond Trail is a nearly 3,300-foot level walking trail on Bella Vista's west side. Located below the Loch Lomond Dam, it has a paved surface and loops around a soball field. Parking is available. 2. Next are the Back 40 Trails. is system consists of 40 miles of trails designed primarily for mountain biking, but more than half the users of the Back 40 are walkers/hikes. Located on the east side of the community, the trail is open to the public. 3. e Sugar Creek Trails, located in the central part of Bella Vista, were created for walking and mountain biking, and are open to the public. e trails are machine built and wider than the single track Back 40 Trails.
