Lucas envisions a set up where volunteers would continue to play a major role in museum operations but with a paid professional director. e museum today has about 20 volunteers who serve as docents, plus about a dozen Board members. It gets help from the Bella Vista POA with seasonal mowing of the museum grounds, and also from the Work Detail Teams of the Benton County Jail on a variety of tasks. e teams also help at several cemeteries in Bella Vista which the Historical Society maintains. e Society became owner of the Summit Cemetery in the Metfield area in 2018, and also owns the Linebarger water tank, built in 1927 on Cedar Crest Drive. People still come into the museum with no idea that there was a Bella Vista before Cooper started the retirement/recreation community in the 1960's. Other people come in asking where is 'downtown' Bella Vista, not realizing how Bella Vista evolved over the years. Bella Vista has a unique history, Lucas said, and the Historical Museum is ready and willing to tell that story.
