How long was "Murder, She Wrote" on? – Jean Clark, via email A: The veteran actress, who came to series television after successes in movies and on Broadway, had a 12-year weekly run as mystery novelist Jessica Fletcher on CBS. She earned an Emmy nomination for each season of the show, which she followed with four TV-movie sequels. As strongly identified with "Murder, She Wrote" as Lansbury became, it's interesting to note that it originally wasn't developed for her. It was intended for Jean Stapleton, who previously was "All in the Family's" Edith Bunker and ultimately decided not to play Jessica. An offer then was made to Lansbury, who had portrayed Agatha Christie's Miss Jane Marple in a movie a few years earlier ... and the rest is TV history. Several episodes of "Murder, She Wrote" are shown weekdays on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. Q: It seems like Joy Behar has been gone from "The View" quite a bit lately. Is she leaving the show? – Pamela Cramer, Kansas City, Mo. A: In a word, no. In fact, she signed a new contract over the summer that will keep her on the program until at least 2025. As well as being a panelist on the show, Behar steps into the role of moderator whenever Whoopi Goldberg is off (which includes, usually, every Friday). Behar took a little over a week off in October for an overseas vacation that coincided with her birthday, which "The View" celebrated when she returned – in part via recorded messages from such well-wishers as President and Jill Biden, and Bette Midler (whom Behar jokingly griped that she's frequently mistaken for when she's out and about).
