Donation Process
Hosting a Drive
• Donors must be at least 17 years old or 16 years old with written
parental consent and weigh at least 110 pounds.
• In a private screening room, a phlebotomist will review a
questionnaire and basic eligibility requirements. He or she will take
your blood pressure and temperature, and your hemoglobin will be
checked with a small finger-prick. All information is confidential.
• Once in a donor bed, a phlebotomist will cleanse your arm with
an antiseptic swab. Next you might feel a brief pinch as the
phlebotomist inserts a sterile needle.
• Most donations are under 10 minutes. While you donate, you have
your pick of snacks and a drink to wash it all down. It's important to
drink fluids after you donate!
• Before you leave, your arm is wrapped in a colorful bandage as your
badge of honor.
• You will be eligible to save another life in 56 days!
• Impact your community, by hosting a blood drive!
1. Call
(910) 615-LIFE or email savingliveslocally@capefearvalley.com
2. Our mobile recruiter will help you pick a date and time for your blood drive,
and where the bloodmobile should park. They'll also provide you with
marketing materials/signage to promote your blood drive.
3. Encourage volunteers to sign up to give blood on the day of your drive.
You'll have a goal based on how long your blood drive is.
• Now your work is done! The day of the drive, the bloodmobile rolls up and
handles all the donations. This is a great way to give back to the community,
helping our friends, family and neighbors in need of lifesaving transfusions.
