Donation Process Hosting a Drive • Donors must be at least 17 years old or 16 years old with written parental consent and weigh at least 110 pounds. • In a private screening room, a phlebotomist will review a questionnaire and basic eligibility requirements. He or she will take your blood pressure and temperature, and your hemoglobin will be checked with a small finger-prick. All information is confidential. • Once in a donor bed, a phlebotomist will cleanse your arm with an antiseptic swab. Next you might feel a brief pinch as the phlebotomist inserts a sterile needle. • Most donations are under 10 minutes. While you donate, you have your pick of snacks and a drink to wash it all down. It's important to drink fluids after you donate! • Before you leave, your arm is wrapped in a colorful bandage as your badge of honor. • You will be eligible to save another life in 56 days! • Impact your community, by hosting a blood drive! 1. They'll also provide you with marketing materials/signage to promote your blood drive. 3. Encourage volunteers to sign up to give blood on the day of your drive. You'll have a goal based on how long your blood drive is. • Now your work is done! The day of the drive, the bloodmobile rolls up and handles all the donations.
