E
ven in her last days, Holden orp said of his mother, she mused, "Well,
this isn't good. I'm not being productive." Fayetteville said goodbye to
Olga Lucia Bernardin orp last month. We knew the founding artistic
director of Cape Fear Regional eatre as simply "Bo." Since the 1960s, she had
been not only a force in the theater world but a champion of her community.
At her funeral, Holden orp recalled that she directed the city's presentation when it
won All-America City honors in 2011. She stood for equality, getting involved and second
chances, and she knew how to get things done. Part of her magic was inspiring the best in
others, and many have followed her example.
It's that same spirit of giving back that CityView celebrates this month with our third
annual Power of Giving Community Impact Awards presented by PWC, recognizing the
contributions of four individuals who choose to step up and be a part of the solution to move
their hometown forward. e stories of Ruby Murray, Vera Bell, and Wes and Lucy Jones
that follow tell how each of them has lived a life of community service and helped make
Fayetteville a better place to live. As Bo might say, that's being productive.
