T8 WHATS UP! October 23 - 29, 2022 BY RAYE SMITH TV Media WHAT'S NEW ON NETFLIX "All Quiet on the Western Front" (2022) Take some time to reflect on the past with the new anti-war epic "All Quiet on the Western Front," premiering Friday, Oct. 28, on Netflix. Set in 1917 war- time Germany, the film follows Paul Bäumer (Felix Kammerer, "David im Wunderland," 1998), a German teenager who lies about his age so that he's able to enlist alongside his friends. While all the young men's heads are filled will romanti- cized notions of patriotism and honor, the events that follow their enlistment dismantle their preconceptions about the glories of war almost immedi- ately. Thrown into the trenches with too little equipment and less-than-adequate training, Paul embarks on a desperate journey to survive and keep ev- eryone else around him alive. Directed by Edward Berger ("Jack," 2014) with a screenplay by Berger, Lesley Paterson ("Cosmic Radio," 2007) and Ian Stokell ("Life in an Instant: 8 Seconds," 2018), the film is based on the 1929 bestselling novel of the same name by Er- ich Maria Remarque. The cast is rounded out by Daniel Brühl ("The Alienist"), Albrecht Schuch ("Berlin Alexander- platz," 2020), Sebastian Hülk ("Hanna," 2011), Edin Hasa- novic ("Je Suis Karl," 2021), An- ton von Lucke ("Frantz," 2016), David Striesow ("The Counter- feiters," 2007), Joe Weintraub ("Jojo Rabbit," 2019), Peter Sikorski ("Charlie's Angels," 2019) and Dominikus Weileder ("Isi & Ossi," 2020). The pair develop a strong and devoted friendship over long nights spent working in the hospital, instilling hope for Amy's future for the first time in years. But when a series of mysterious patient deaths points to Charlie as the prime suspect, Amy is forced to risk everything to uncover the truth.
