Page 7 Sigma Phi Epsilon AC A D E M I C S I am very proud to announce that SPE took home the highest IFC GPA for the spring 2022 semester. We achieved a 3.54, surpassing the second and third place chapters with 3.53 and 3.47, respectively. For those who are not achieving their maximum academic potential, we have an academic mentorship to assist their progress by connecting younger brothers with older brothers within the same school. PH I L A N T H RO P Y Over the fall, Florida Alpha hopes to host fundraisers for a variety of organizations. We plan to raise funds for the University of Florida's Dance Marathon with our partner, Alpha Chi Omega. Our brothers recently gathered with Pi Beta Phi on September 11 to assist A Reason to Give, a service organization that is dedicated to creating lunches for the homeless. MEMBERSHIP AND EDUCATION Around 1,200 potential new members signed up for fall's formal recruitment week, of which around 300 walked through our doors. With roughly a quarter of the PNMs coming to SigEp, it reassures the fact that we are one of the most successful fraternities on campus. The success we have achieved over the past few years has allowed us to produce young leaders who are making an impact on campus and within their spheres of influence. This is something the undergraduate members are very proud of and something that others strive to be a part of. The Sigma Challenge has been geared toward acclimating new brothers to the Fraternity climate and encouraging them to contribute to the success of our Chapter. The Phi Challenge focuses on freshmen and sophomores who joined SigEp in the past two semesters. This challenge provides brothers with tools to pursue their physical, intellectual, and academic goals. The Epsilon Challenge works with all current juniors. Brothers of the Epsilon Challenge will start to look beyond their college goals and aim toward long-tern professional success post-graduation. Brother Mentors serve as consuls for advice and reflection. They give back to the Chapter by speaking with members of the three prior challenges and spend time discussing the legacy they have left on the Chapter. M E M B E R EV E N TS Florida Alpha has a presence within every aspect of campus involvement. Two of our current undergraduate brothers, Scott Ater '22 and Brady Alexander '22, were recently inducted into the U of F Hall of Fame. We have brothers involved with Student Government, Homecoming and Gator Growl, Florida Cicerones, Special Olympics, various engineering design teams, service organizations, and many more activities on and off campus. TAILGATING AND GOLF CLASSIC We are excited to be hosting a total of seven alumni events this fall. Six of them are tailgates, with two already under our belt and resulting in a very successful turnout of both undergraduates and alumni. It has been great to have alumni connect with each other as well as meet future leaders of the undergraduate Chapter! We are paired with KKG for fall 2022 Homecoming in early October. Our seventh and final alumni event will be the Florida Alpha Classic, the inaugural golf tournament hosted by the Florida Alpha Chapter. On November 5, at Turkey Creek Golf Club, there will be a shotgun-start golf tournament that is open to all Florida Alpha alumni and undergraduates. Find more info about registering on the back page of this newsletter. I N T R A M U R A L S Our Chapter will have over 70 brothers participating in intramural sports, including basketball, soccer, softball, and volleyball. The fraternity league basketball team posted a 3-1 record in the regular season this spring, which gained them a six-seed spot in the playoffs. They won the first two games of a 15-team playoff and have landed themselves a spot in the final four. Our members are motivated to come out on top for all sports this semester. All these sports, especially flag football, will draw crowds of brothers, which generates an electric atmosphere and exemplifies amazing brotherly love.
