Sigma Phi Epsilon A Banquet of Brotherhood SigEps Come Together to Recognize Balanced Man Scholarship Recipients O n August 25, Florida Alpha met in the Champions Club in Ben Hill Griffin Stadium for the annual Balanced Man Scholarship Banquet. Headed by BMS Chairmen Ian Kelsey '25 and Matt Shake '25 and overseen by Vice President of Recruitment James Bond '23, the banquet served as a celebration to Florida Alpha's past, present, and future. Once the undergraduates, alumni, and additional guests were seated, Chapter President Austin Wendling '23 kicked off the banquet by welcoming everyone. Shortly after, alumnus guest speaker Zach Karpinski '22 spoke about his recent experiences in life and showcased the strength of our brotherhood. Next, brothers Matt and Ian welcomed and recognized the Balanced Man Scholarship finalists for their hard work through the selection process. After a break for dinner and Chapter awards, Dr. Grant Buttram, North Carolina State '93 spoke to the guests on the importance of mental health awareness and the good his team is doing with the help of Sigma Phi Epsilon's network. Brother Bill Lambert '76 then presented the Florida Alpha alumni scholarships, awarding Austin, James, Parker Rossignol '24, and Michael Laventure '23 a collective $3,000. After the presentation, Todd Bonlarron '93 and Betty Alsobrook presented the Al Alsobrook Memorial Scholarship to Parker Rossignol '24. To close out the night, Matt and Ian presented the BMS Scholarship winners. After interviewing 171 applicants and selecting 18 finalists, Matt and Ian presented Rocco Shore '26, Alan Birbrayer '26, and Pedro Cintron Baerga with the 2022 Balanced Man Scholarship. The night was finished with closing remarks from James, who thanked everyone for coming. The banquet was a wonderful time for everyone and a reminder of just how much Sigma Phi Epsilon does for its brothers, family, and community. From the undergraduates of Florida Alpha, we would like to thank AVC, FAEF, and all the guests who made this year's BMS Banquet such a success.
