THE TAXI NEWS ALPHA SIGMA CHAPTER OF THETA XI • BRADLEY UNIVERSITY FALL 2022 ALPHA SIGMA'S ADVANCEMENTS Scholarship and Chapter House Progress I 'm pleased to say that our Building on Our Past, Securing Our Future—The Legacy of Alpha Sigma scholarship capital campaign has gone extremely well. Based on the pledges received, I'm confident we will get over the $500,000 goal by the end of the campaign on December 31, 2025. We ended 2021 with just over $250,000 in our endowment account, and if we collect the expected ~$60,000 from donors this year, we should get over $300,000. This would lead to four scholarship payouts of approximately $4,000 each. Add to that our expected seven Blue Iris recipients who receive $2,400 per year and our three Gleespen recipients at $500, and we're looking at an approximate grand total of just over $33,000 in total scholarship payouts for next school year. That would bring our total scholarships paid out since our first semester in spring 2011 to ~$175,000. For the chapter house renovations, we continue to make progress. This year, we replaced the roof and spent the rest of our time and effort planning the kitchen renovation. We hope to convert it into a functional commercial kitchen capable of supporting a cook and a member meal plan. Due to inflation and the supply chain crisis, the project was delayed from summer to winter break to save costs. A big thank-you goes to Michael Kull '15 and Kris Kopel '01, who have spent an extraordinary amount of time on this project. As a reminder, the last promised improvement to the house from the campaign is the replacement of our furnaces. Now that the volunteer hours for the solicitation phase of the campaign are over, we've moved on to mentoring the chapter on their next big task of recruitment. Half of the chapter members went through a two-month recruitment training program over the summer with the company Phired Up. We also purchased ChapterBuilder, which is a software designed for Greek organizations to track, monitor, and contact prospects. Our members worked diligently over the summer, and I'm pleased to say that as of today's writing, the day before move-in day, they already have 58 leads in ChapterBuilder, four of whom have expressed interest in joining. See the report from Brendan Klepitsch '24 on page 3 for more updates. For those of you that don't know, Phired Up preaches the following: "You can't recruit who you don't know, so start by building your name list with inbound marketing techniques like our new book scholarship. People join people, so focus on building authentic connections and friendships with contacts." Personally, I'm extremely impressed with the amount of work and effort our students were willing to do over the summer to help this year's recruitment efforts succeed.
