Save the date for the annual Christmas Light Parade for Satur- day, December 3rd, 2022. The theme this year is "Christmas in the desert." Sept. 13 Town Council meeting recap The public is invited to a Meet and Greet the Candidates Forum TUES- DAY, OCTOBER 4, 2022. The fo- rum is hosted by Quartzsite Area Chamber of Commerce & Tourism. The forum will be held at the Quartzsite Senior Center, 40 N. Moon Mountain Ave., Quartzsite. Candidates are en- couraged to bring promotional mate- rials to share with voters. Doors open to the Public at 6:00pm for greeting the candidates. Forum will start at 6:30pm Refreshments will be provided. • Each Candidate will be allowed a 3 minute Introduction • Prepared questions will be pre- sented. The number of questions is dependent on the number of Candi- dates in attendance. Decorum will be required from all attendees. Meet the Candidates planned Oct. 4 Don't dump at the wood chipper Quartzsite Police Dept reminds the public about abusing the wood chipper. The woodchipper located behind the Waste/Water Treatment Plant should only be used for dumping tree trimmings and other discard- ed vegetation. Illegal dumping of trash, building/construction mate- rial, concrete, and other debris are prohibited. BLM [Bureau of Land Management] has graciously al- lowed us to utilize this land to dis- pose of discarded vegetation. Continuous dumping of prohibited materials will result in the closure of the woodchipper. Please take all other debris and trash to the local or county landfill for proper dispos- al. Illegal dumping could result in a fine of $500 dollars and/or 30 days in jail. If you have any questions contact QPD at 928-927-6444. Council recap September 13th regular meeting Council approved consent agenda items Ledger of Accounts paid in the total amount of $296,960.45, and minutes of the Regular meet- ing of August 22, 2022 and Special Meeting of August 23, 2022. Council voted to award a bid for Type 2 Slurry Seal services to T & C Seal Coating. The contract amount is approximately $101,551 based on a per square yard price of $2.22. The exact amount of square yardage to be applied may change depending upon local conditions. This project has been budgeted. Council voted to approve a co- operative purchase contract with Empire Southwest, LLC for the purchase of a new Caterpillar 920- 14A small wheel loader. The Town is purchasing this loader using the cooperative purchase agreement first issued by the City of Tucson. The purchase price is $222,568 and has been budgeted in Public Works Capital Outlay. Council voted to accept the resig- nation of Devyn Rosner from the Quartzsite Special Projects Board. Council heard a presentation by Town Attorney Joe Estes on the election review questions that Council had requested at the previ- ous meeting. The counted was due to how the County Elections De- partment classified the ballots ac- cording to when they were submit- ted rather than by precinct. Council expressed satisfaction with this ex- planation. Council voted to approve the Amended and Restated Employ- ment Agreement with Town man- ager, Jim Ferguson. The Quartzsite Camel Corps, Pacific Northwest Camel Company and In- Store Secure Self Storage are happy to be bringing camels and smiles to our town during the full month of January 2023. The highlight of January's Camel ex- perience will be the "Camelpalooza" on the weekend of January 21st and 22nd, 2023. Peak Climbing will be coming to Quartzsite on December 29th. They will be setup and ready for climbers before the New Years weekend. Peak Climbing will be staying with us at Camelot, located at 726 E Main St for the month of January and will be offering some special deals dur- ing the Camelpalooza on January 21st and 22nd. Camel rides, free food, live music, campfires, camel related crafts and vendors, climbing wall and much much more. Mark your calendars!
