We don't think so. If the information above doesn't convince you, the 2010 census showed our year round population has grown from 3,354 to 3,677. If we missed your new or improved business we apologize. Mike and Judy Nacheff Quartzsite Do what is right I'd like to take this time so that our government can take a few minutes and reflect on this country. Look at us common people that live here and that have voted for you. Right now a lot of us are out of work and let me tell you it is not by choice. I am one of them, and let me tell you, I would love to work right now, but where I live, there is little work and I am a single mother of two. I would rather be working than on welfare, but at this point I have no choice. Let me get off my life, which I hate to say, but there are so many other Americans that are in the same boat that I am in. I will say that there are so many of you that have a lot of money and don't need any more. So where does that leave this country. The government is in debt and most of the people that live here are in debt and then you want to take more money from us, when you are setting high on the hog. This country needs a reality check, not just for officials that are in office, but so many of our actors, musicians, and very wealthy. I am not prejudiced to helping people of other countries, but how can so many of you help them when this country has its fair share on the streets and so many more getting ready to fall. I am not saying to just give away your money that you have worked hard for, but I am saying look at us. Look at the ones that watch you on television, the ones that buy your music, and the ones that vote for you. Shouldn't we deserve some respect and help back instead of always being the ones that get hurt? It shouldn't matter if you are Republican or Democrat. We the American people voted for you, so why can't you work together for the American people and do what is right for us and not just for you? Patsy Gresham, Quartzsite Riding fences The concept of riding the fence is a euphemism for remaining non- commital. Have you ever really tried to ride a fence? It's impossible because there is no saddle upon which to sit, only a thin wire offering no stability for integrity. Like the song Desperado says, "You've been out riding fences for too long now...come down from those fences and open the gate." Hygeia Halfmoon, Quartzsite Follow the law Mrs. Golden-Bear, Your editorial blog piece entitled, "How can Quartzsite be- come a better community" missed the mark on several points. The question you raise in your article is valid. Your suggestion as to the cause of the obvi- ous decline in the community quality of life and possible solutions fail to address the problem in an honest and objective manner. Your article begins by suggesting Mayor Ed Foster is the cause of the polarization that grips the community is not valid, nor fair. For the sake of clarity let us point out that the Mayor's only fault is his insistence that the Quartzsite Council and Administration follow the law and produce public documents to the press and public and to hold well publicized public meetings that are conducted at a time and place in a manner that encourages public participation in the governing process of the community. Due to length and space limits, read the rest of Bob Miller's 556 word let- ter at www.QuartzsiteBlog.com under post of "How can Quartz- site become a better community?" Disasters can happen anywhere, anytime—even in someone's own home. September is National Pre- paredness Month and the American Red Cross is urging everyone to take three easy steps to get their house- hold ready for emergencies. People everywhere are feeling the impacts of climate change with more frequent and intense weather events threatening our communi- ties. September is National Pre- paredness Month and the American Red Cross of Arizona urges every- one to get ready for these emergen- cies now. Just last year, more than 40% of Americans some 130 million people were living in a county struck by a climate-related disaster. These three action steps are as fol- lows: Get a Kit, Make a Plan, Be Informed. In this story, we will give you all the details on how to build your emergency kit so you and your loved ones can react quickly when a disaster strikes. BUILDING AN EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS KIT Being prepared means being equipped with the proper supplies you may need in the event of an emergency or disaster. Keep your supplies in an easy-to-carry emer- gency preparedness kit that you can use at home or take with you in case you must evacuate. At a minimum, you should have the basic supplies listed below: 1. Water: one gallon per person, per day (3-day supply for evacuation, 2- week supply for home) 2.Food: non-perishable, easy-to- prepare items (3-day supply for evacuation, 2-week supply for home). 3. Flashlight 4. Battery-powered or hand-crank radio 5. Extra batteries 6. First aid kit 7. Medications (7-day supply) and medical items 8. Multi-purpose tool 9. Sanitation and personal hygiene items 10. Copies of personal documents (medication list and pertinent med- ical information, proof of address, deed/lease to home, passports, birth certifi cates, insurance policies) 11. Cell phone with chargers 12. Family and emergency contact information 13. Extra cash 14. Blankets 15. Map(s) of the area Consider the needs of all family members and add supplies to your kit: • Medical supplies (hearing aids with extra batteries, glasses, contact lenses, syringes, etc.) • Baby supplies (bottles, formula, baby food, diapers) • Games and activities for children • Pet supplies (collar, leash, ID, food, carrier, bowl) • Two-way radios • Extra set of car keys and house keys • Manual can opener For more information on planning for emergencies, visit the website, www.redcross.org The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides comfort to vic- tims of disasters; supplies about 40% of the nation's blood; teaches skills that save lives; distributes in- ternational humanitarian aid; and supports veterans, military mem- bers and their families. The Red Cross is a nonprofi t organization that depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to deliver its mission. If the enemy incline towards peace, do thou also incline towards peace, and trust in God, for the Lord is the one that heareth and knoweth all things. And the servants of God, Most Gracious are those who walk on the Earth in humility, and when we address them, we say 'Peace.' - MUSLIM PRAYER FOR PEACE
