A native of Rutherford County, Betty was the daughter of the late Augustus George and Elizabeth Sisk Ford. Dedicated to her family, Mrs. Clements was an accomplished homemaker and an avid gardener. She was a caring person whose last act was assisting one of her friends. Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Kaye Clements White and husband Grant of Waxhaw, NC; granddaughter Holly LiVolsi and husband Rich of Unionville, NC; great grandchildren Joseph LiVolsi and Dominic LiVolsi of Unionville, NC.; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie Madge Clements; daughter Faye Clements; sisters Mildred Ruppe, Evelyn Smith, Dorothy Crowder and brother Gene Ford. Funeral services were held at Crowe's Mortuary with Rev. Larry Ford officiating. Interment followed in Eternal Hills Memorial Park. Crowes Mortuary is serving the family. BILLY SPURGEON BUTLER, JR. B i l l y Spurgeon B u t l e r , Jr., 60, of Ellenboro, went to be with the Lord on July 24, 2013. A native of Rutherford County, he was born on September 05, 1952, a son of the late Billy Spurgeon Butler, Sr. and Lillian Chapman Butler Newton and husband Homer of Polk County. He was an Auto Mechanic and the owner-operator of "Git-R-Done" Auto Service of Ellenboro. He was a member of Glenwood Baptist Church of Bostic. He enjoyed Dirt Track Racing and raced at Harris Speedway. In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by one daughter, Mia Angel Ledford; two sons, Joshua Matthew Ledford and Brian Stacey Griffin; his maternal grandfather, Garfield Chapman. In addition to his mother and step-father, he is survived by his children, Billy Spurgeon Butler, III, "Spud" and girlfriend Crystal Templeton of Ellenboro, R.G. JUAN "BOY" GONZALES Juan "Boy" Gonzales, age 54, of Asheville, NC, passed away Sunday, July 28, 2013. Juan was born May 16, 1959 in Chicago Heights, Illinois to Maria Gonzales Maeta. He worked as a registered nurse for over 20 years which included the University of Chicago Hospital, John Hopkins Medical Center, Carolinas Medical Center and Mission HospitalSt. Joseph Campus in Asheville. Juan loved collecting various forms of art work, writing poetry, studying history and was an avid reader. He also enjoyed shopping for clothes. He was greatly loved by all of his family and especially those from his hometown of Chicago Heights. In addition to his mother, survivors include his daughter, Mia Gonzales Elliott and husband, Paul of Mooresboro and two grandchildren, Keeton Elliott and Paisley Elliott. Funeral services were conducted at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with his daughter officiating. HERMAN HERMA HERMAN "GENE" "G HENSLEY H e r m a n " G e n e " Hensley, age 69, of Bostic, NC, passed away Thursday, July 25, 2013. Gene was born May 23, 1944 in Rutherford County, NC to the Robert Creed Hensley and Laura Pansy Briscoe Hensley. He was a retired purchasing agent for Stonecutter Mills and a faithful member of Sunshine United Methodist Church where he served as Sunday School superintendent and song leader. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Bruce Hensley of Union Mills. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of fifty years, Marie Hensley; two daughters, Angela Davis and husband, Bobby of Bostic and Sherry Walker and husband Billy of Forest City; two brothers, Arnold Hensley and wife, Lois of Union Mills and Boyce Hensley and wife, Mary of Spartanburg, SC; one sister-in-law, Nancy Hensley of Rutherfordton and two half sisters, Lockie Sailors and Bobby Joe Durham both of Texas. He was also a loving grandfather to Shane, Ashley and Kala Davis and Kari, Brandon, Dusty and Nicholas Walker; and also to nine great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Teresa R. Blanton officiating. Interment followed in Sunshine United Methodist Church Cemetery. She was the daughter of the late Julia and Jennings Troxler Jr. Judith was a retired postal carrier and previous owner of the Greensboro Rubber Stamp Company. Left to cherish her memory are her two children Cabot Jones and Christopher Jones. Grandchildren Joshua Morgan, Zoie Harris, and Heather Daniela Cooper all of Guilford County. VICKIE ANN VICK K MCKINNEY MCK C Vickie Ann Vickie McKinney, age 61, of Forest City, NC, passed away Friday, July 26, 2013. Vickie was born April 27, 1952 in Rutherford County, NC to the late Buford Henson and Ruby Hames Henson. She was a graduate of Chase High School, class of 1970 and also of Isothermal Community College. Vickie worked for the Rutherford County Public Schools as a substitute teacher for over twenty-five years and a member of the Red Hat Society. Vickie was a member of Spindale Fellowship Holiness Church and enjoyed reading, decorating, craftwork, cats, singing and she especially loved playing with her grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Bobby Joe Henson and Rondle Henson. Survivors include her husband of forty-two years, Donald McKinney; one son, Jeremy McKinney and wife, Deanna of Forest City; three brothers, Gene Henson of Forest City, DeWitt Henson and wife, Barbara of Chesnee, SC and Clyde Henson and wife, Shirley of Forest City; two sisters, Barbara Gardner and Betty Waters and husband, Sam all of Forest City. She is also survived by a goddaughter, Lacy Muller of Forest City; two grandchildren, Alexis Swink and husband, Tyler and Triston McKinney; two great-grandchildren, Mckinlee Swink and Macaylee Swink. Funeral services were conducted at the Spindale Fellowship Holiness Church with Reverend Leon Brown, Reverend Lee Wayne Grubb and Reverend Bob Philbeck officiating. Harrelson Funeral and Cremation Services is caring for the family of Mrs. McKinney. SAMUEL BERGER S a m u e l Berger, 96, of Union Mills, NC, passed away Monday July 22, 2013. He was born January 27, 1917, in Providence, Rhode Island, the son of the late Rose and Max Berger. He served in the US Navy, and worked for 69 years before retiring. As a young man, Sam moved to Tampa, FL in 1934 and moved to Miami, FL in Thursday, August 1-August 7, 2013 1946, where he met his wife Frieda, and lived there for 53 years. When he moved to North Carolina in 1999, and after his wife, Frieda who passed away just three weeks later, Sam volunteered at the Rutherford County Senior Center where he helped out in the kitchen, sometimes chopping onions and passing out milk during lunch. He became the Volunteer of the Year for Rutherford County on August 26, 2003. Sam volunteered at the Senior Center for over 12 years. During his many years at the center, he became very active in dancing. He performed at numerous nursing homes with the Senior Center's dance troop, and he always found time to perform in the North Carolina Senior Games. During these games, Sam and his best friend, Missy Hughes, even went on to win a Gold Medal at a state competition! He won many medals during the sport competitions at the NC Senior Games as well! Sam became a recognized person from dancing at Rutherford County's Relay For Life, dancing to Michael Jackson's Thriller and even the Beastie Boys. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Jay Aldrich of Union Mills, NC; son Murray Richard Berger of Miami, FL; grandchildren, Ellen Holly Aldrich, of Greenville, SC, Benjamin Michael Aldrich and his wife, Laura Leigh Aldrich, of Seiverville, TN. He was predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Frieda Rubitsky Berger, his sister, Mary Walker, and his brother, Benjamin Berger. A service was held at Crowes Mortuary with Deacon Andy Cilone officiating and Military Honors provided by the Rutherford County Honor Guard. Burial took place at Mt. Nebo Cemetery in Miami, FL. BRENDA ERVIN PERRY TERRY B r e n d a Ervin Perry Terry, 64, of Mooresboro, passed away on Wednesday, July 24, 2013. A native of Cleveland County, she was born on November 12, 1948, a daughter of the late Rufus "R.B." Ervin and Ruby Nell McDaniel Ervin. She was a housekeeper and of the Baptist faith. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by two husbands, Freddy Allen Perry and David Airnell Terry, Sr.; one sister, Myra "Mary" Dotson; one granddaughter, Kailyn Watts. She is survived by one son, George Perry and wife Renee of Mooresboro; one adopted son, Rufus Scott Garrett of Tennessee; one step son, David Arnell Terry, Jr., of Ellenboro; two daughters, Christina Perry Watts and husband Sonny of Mooresboro and Doanie Lemberger of Mooresboro; two step-daughters, Kimberly Watts and husband Carl of Mooresboro and Katherine Terry of Shelby; one brother, Jerry Dean Ervin and wife Paula of Mooresboro; one sister, Sarah Terry of Shelby; grandchildren, Mark Andrew Griffin, Jr., Dustan Lee Griffin, Dawn Marie Griffin, and Cheyanne Perry; step-grandchildren, C.J. Watts, Kaitlyn Watts, Mitchell Terry, Trevor Terry, Landon Terry and Jaydon Terry; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at The A.C. McKinney Memorial Chapel with the Rev. GARY CLARK CAUSBY Gary Clark Causby, 61, of Mooresboro, p a s s e d away on Tuesday, July 23, 2013. A native of Cleveland County, he was born on June 08, 1952, a son of the late Clarence Willis "Bill" Causby and Sara Clark Causby of Spindale. He was retired from Ingles and was a member of Race Path Baptist Church. He was also a member of Grandparents Raising Grandchildren, and the Mustang Club. In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by his grandson, Stephen "Tyler" Watkins. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Barbara Whitaker Causby; two sons, Christopher Kaine Causby and Ryan Lee Causby, both of the home; two daughters, Heather Dawn Causby of Ellenboro and fiancé Alan Holycross, II, also of Ellenboro, and Kari Beth Causby of Mooresboro; one sister, Connie Jo Causby of Marion; his grandchildren, Alan Holycross, III and Chase Hayes. A memorial service was held at Race Path Baptist Church with the Rev. Randall Cooper, Rev. John Godfrey and Rev. Lance Scarlett officiating.
