47 PREP RALLY: CLASS 3A | 8.21.2022 2021 RECORD 2-7, 1-6 3A-1 Conference COACH Lee Larkin RETURNING STARTERS 7 offense, 7 defense KEY PLAYERS QB/DB Max Meredith (Sr., 5-10, 220), RB/ LB Seth Center (Sr., 5-11, 167), OL J.R. Selvy (Sr., 6-1, 220), OL Matthew Goad (Sr., 5-9, 240), LB Artis Hampton (Sr., 5-9, 186), WR Kade Gobel (Sr., 6-0, 165) THE SKINNY Larkin is always about lifting weights. So is his quarterback. The 5-10, 220-pound Max Meredith can hold his own when it comes to weight meets. He's not a bad quarterback, either. Meredith threw for 1,677 yards and 2 touchdowns last season. In addition, Meredith checked in with 39 stops on defense. … Speedy Seth Center (4.8 in the 40) is among 14 starters back from the 2021 team, seven on both sides of the ball. … Steady Matthew Goad anchors the line as a three-year starter. THAT'S WHAT HE SAID "Off-season is a big thing for us. We lift every day, even on game day. Last year, I don't think we had the complete buy-in. This year, we've really bought in." — Lee Larkan PARIS EAGLES 2021 RECORD 10-2, 6-1 3A-4 Conference COACH Jeff Weaver RETURNING STARTERS 2 offense, 3 defense KEY PLAYERS RB/LB Mason Bradley (Sr., 5-6, 170), RB/ LB Andrew Wells (Sr., 5-10, 170), OL/DL Christian Hoen (Sr., 5-11, 280) DL.K James Yang (Sr., 5-11, 228), WR Sebastian Wells (Sr., 5-9, 160). THE SKINNY The Eagles nearly blew out the bulbs to the scoreboard last season. They hung 58 points on West Fork and blew out Danville 61-19. But nearly all of the 2021 starters graduated, leaving second-year coach Jeff Weaver to drastically alter his offense heading into the 2022 campaign. … The Eagles will get very familiar with Arkansas 7 this season, with the 3A-4 conference including teams like Jessieville, Glen Rose, Centerpoint, Bismarck and Magnet Cove. THAT'S WHAT HE SAID "I got to see Glen Rose play last year. I think we have a great chance to compete (in the 3A-4). (But), we need to stay healthy; we don't have as much depth." — Jeff Weaver SCHEDULE Aug. 26 ......at Waldron Oct. 7 ............. THE SKINNY Greatness doesn't take many days off. Not when it comes to Booneville Bearcats football, anyway. Five years removed from its last state title run, the Bearcats are poised for another deep run with big-time playmakers on both sides of the ball. … RBs Rylen Ray and Dax Goff, both juniors, will split time in the backfield for coach Doc Crowley's squad. Ray ran for 1,027 yards and 12 touchdowns as a sophomore. Goff added 947 yards and 12 TDs. And both are good defensive players, too. … Senior tackle Chase Plymale led the Bearcats with 10.5 tackles for loss in 2021. … Crowley's squad, which finished 13-2 a year ago, will play three tough nonconference games, starting with Pine Bluff Dollarway. … Since 2018, the Bearcats are 48-8. THAT'S WHAT HE SAID "This group, we expect to win. They believe they can, and they understand the work it takes to win. My first couple of years here, those ingredients weren't necessarily happening. Our first initial goal is to make the playoffs. It's a very tough league; Booneville and Charleston are in the top 5 in the state." — Doc Crowley SCHEDULE Aug. 26 ......at Dollarway Oct. 7 ......... at Greenland* Sept. 2 .......Ozark Oct. 14 ............Mansfield* Sept. 16 .....Harding Academy Oct. 21 .......... THE SKINNY Washausen knows the Pirates may not be on the radar this coming season. Such is the case with a huge graduation loss, but that doesn't mean his team expects anything less. … The Pirates went 9-3 in 2021, which included a playoff win. … The speedy Morton (4.6 in the 40) rushed for 129 yards and two scores last season before injuries curtailed his season. … Teammate Levi Hightower (6-5) added 24 tackles from his safety position and is penciled in to move under center, giving the Pirates a huge presence in the pocket. THAT'S WHAT HE SAID "This group, we expect to win. They believe they can, and they understand the work it takes to win. My first couple of years here, those ingredients weren't necessarily happening. Our first initial goal is to make the playoffs. THE SKINNY The Tigers sped through the 2021 season without missing a beat. But despite completing a 10-0 season, the school's 11th unbeaten regular season mark since 2002, Charleston dropped its first playoff game after drawing a first-round bye. This season, with 16 returning starters, headlined by quarterback Brandon Scott, coach Ricky May and Co. are poised to make another deep playoff run. … Scott threw for 1,817 yards and 13 touchdowns last season and added 12 rushing touchdowns out of the spread offensive set. … Shifty Reece Merechka (4.89) and Brevyn Ketter (4.99) have break-away speed. … Ketter's twin brother Bryton caught 33 passes for 533 yards and five scores in 2021. … Star lineman Roy Hudson, who scored a 32 on his ACT, is among the team leaders.
