PREP RALLY: COVER STORY | 8.21.2022
in 2022.
First, graduation claimed a lot of good
players from around him, offensively, so
he's breaking in new faces.
"We've gone through offseason,
we've gone through spring, we've gone
through summer and I think he's done a
good job of helping some of those new
faces develop," Conaway said. "We're
excited about getting those guys ready
for that Sept. 2 game against Little Rock
Christian."
Wisdom embraced the challenge with
a rigorous 7-on-7 tournament circuit
during the summer.
"I've had the younger guys come out
and throw with me all the time," Wisdom
said. "I've tried to build friendships and
chemistry with them, and I think we
have. All of these tournaments have defi-
nitely helped us. Right now, I'm pretty
confident in us, and I'm ready."
Maybe the bigger challenge, though,
is the elevation to Class 5A due to the
Competitive Equity Factor. Shiloh Chris-
tian joins the rugged 5A-West.
"We've played eight tournaments of
7-on-7 this summer, we've hit the weight
room hard and I think we're ready for
it," Wisdom said. "I believe in us and I
believe in our coaching staff."
In December, Wisdom and the Saints
left War Memorial Stadium after a 42-14
loss to Robinson, and that loss left an
indelible image in Wisdom's mind.
"I don't want it to happen again," Wis-
dom said. "It's sad to see my guys over
there crying for a loss. I want my guys
crying for a win. To see those seniors
crying really hurt. That can be me this
year.
"My senior year, I want to leave a
winner."
