With Year 2 of the Trevor Lawrence era on the horizon
in Jacksonville, it's time for a check-in on the Jaguars'
franchise quarterback.
The verdict? Well, let's just say the Jags' prized No. 1
overall 2021 draft pick is a work in progress.
His numbers in his rookie season weren't terrible but not
great either. He connected on 359 of 602 passes (a 59.6
percent completion rate) for 3,641 yards, 12 touchdowns
and 17 interceptions for a pedestrian 71.9 rating. Now,
given that he was a rookie on a team with scant few
weapons, one has to take these stats with a grain of salt
or two, especially since he also exhibited the poise of a
seasoned pro throughout the Jags' 3-14 2021 campaign.
But considering that he was hyped as a generational
talent along the lines of a Peyton Manning or John Elway,
it's easy to see how his inaugural campaign would be
viewed as a disappointment, especially since he also had a
lower passer rating than four of the five quarterbacks taken
in the first round that year.
It will make its first
appearance Thursday, Aug.
4, when the Jags kick off
the 2022 NFL preseason
against the Las Vegas
Raiders in the Pro Football
Hall of Fame Game, which
NBC will broadcast from
Tom Benson Hall of Fame
Stadium in Canton, Ohio.
