What do you hope to accomplish during your time as a volunteer? Melissa: To give back to Alpha Delta Pi what it has given me. I have grown so much as a person with all the opportunities I have had, and I want others to experience the same. Specifically with Sigma, I want to ensure that the collegiate women love their home away from home. Nancy: I had an amazing experience when I was in the chapter and part of that was due to wonderful alumnae volunteers. I hope through my volunteering, I might provide that same positive experience for current chapter members. Emily: I am working to remodel the house to bring it up to date. Lindsay: I hope to create a safe and comfortable environment for the women of Sigma to call home while at University of Illinois. Gina: I hope to get to know more sisters and help improve the chapter house, so our establishment can continue to be a home for so many women who live there over the years. What is your current job title? Melissa: I work for Ingham Intermediate School District in Mason, Michigan, as a teacher for students with emotional impairment and/or disturbance at a residential adjudicated youth facility. Nancy: We own Standardbred harness racing horses, so I manage our equine sport and shipping business. Emily: I am a teacher at Elmwood High School. Lindsay: I am the policy staff attorney at the Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice. Gina: I am a graduate assistant in the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships at Eastern Illinois University. Tell us a little about your family (pets included!). Melissa: My husband, Kyle, and I have been married for over 17 years. We have two kiddos, Kyle II (13) and Madison (7), as well as a spoiled rat terrier, Izzy (2). Nancy: My husband Don and I met five years ago and were married in the middle of the COVID chaos in 2020 and then "celebrated" in 2021. I have a 17 year old daughter and an 8 year old stepson, we have four dogs, two cats and eight horses. Emily: My husband, Troy, and I have three children and two labs. Bekka (26) is a Navy pilot, Jake (24) works in private business, and Anna (22) works at Disney. Lindsay: I live with by boyfriend as well as our rescue pup, Gus. Gina: My husband and I got married last November, and we currently live in Champaign, Illinois. Do you keep in touch with any of your Alpha Delta Pi sisters? Melissa: Yes! Since I have lived in five states and held many different ADPi positions, I have had the opportunity to meet sisters from across the country. I am either texting or calling a sister multiple times a week. I also have an Alpha Xi sister that I text with on a daily basis. Nancy: Yes, over the years I have been blessed to make many friends through ADPi and I keep in touch with my chapter sisters, my local alumnae sisters as well as my International officer sisters! Emily: Oh yes! Facebook has been a great assist in keeping in touch with pledge class sisters. Lindsay: I keep in touch with several of my ADPi sisters, mainly though social media. Gina: Even though I'm six hours away from a lot of my sisters, I still get to see them a few times a year. We plan out trips to visit over holiday weekends, see each other at sisters' weddings, and have been each other's bridesmaids! What is your favorite TV show? Melissa: Currently, Abbott Elementary and Young Sheldon; all time, Bones and Big Bang Theory. Nancy: I am a crime drama junky, Criminal Minds was a favorite, but also need a good home reno fix for new ideas and validation that I am not alone in the renovation crazy. Emily: Crime dramas and HGTV. Lindsay: I loved the West Wing when it was on, and I rewatched it a few years ago. Gina: Parks and Recreation. What is your favorite book? Melissa: I like listening to informational texts and historical non-fiction, but admittedly, I don't enjoy the actual task of reading. Nancy: Loved murder mysteries, but I am ashamed to admit that for the last decade it has all been about "DIY" and "home repair." Emily: I've read too many to pick just one favorite, but I do love historical fiction. Lindsay: To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. Gina: The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid. What are your favorite hobbies? Melissa: My husband and I are members of the Capital City Corvette Club in Lansing, Michigan, so we spend lots of free time there. Nancy: My house is a log cabin built in 1798, so my hobby has become getting it renovated and brought into this century. Emily: I enjoy reading, playing with my dogs, and crafting. Lindsay: I enjoy trying new recipes, reading, hiking, and playing bocce ball. Gina: I love trying new recipes and going on walks. What is your favorite vacation spot? Melissa: My house! I enjoy relaxing there with family. Nancy: My daughter is a hunter-jumper equestrian athlete, so our vacations are wherever we are going to a horse show. Emily: I love traveling and exploring new places, but I don't have a favorite just yet! Lindsay: Nowhere specific, but I prefer any place that I can find balance between being outside and sleeping in a comfy bed. Gina: Rosemary Beach, Florida. Anything else you'd like to add? Melissa: I have served Alpha Delta Pi in numerous positions over the past 20 years. In the realm of housing, I have served on six house corporation boards as well as a housing resource director; each facility has brought a unique but enjoyable housing experience. Lindsay: I graduated from Indiana University in 2003 with a bachelor's degree in political science. Even though I am not a Sigma, I have really come to love chapter.
