continued from front MILESTONE MOMENTS Volunteer with Texas Alpha As we work to provide more mentorship opportunities, professional speaker series, alumni spotlights/industry insight communications and other professional development programming, the goal is to increase not only the value of membership in our impressive organization, but also the overall caliber of student. It's not surprising the direct correlation between positive, enriching undergraduate experiences and continued engagement as alumni and eventual donors. While the professional accolades and endeavors of Texas Alpha across many industries may be common knowledge to some, our continued aim and goal is to provide a comprehensive network that both undergraduates and alumni can continue to turn to and utilize in their professional careers. That is why this edition of Alpha Avalanche emphasizes professional development. As we all know, it is not only the cornerstone of a successful career but also in meaningful relationships that we develop throughout our lives. Please reach out to me via email or text at any time – I always welcome the opportunity to get alumni connected and engaged in whatever way their lives allow. I was taught by my mentor, "Given the choice, when you choose to live your life for others, you will always be significant." I have found those words to not only be true, but also a truly rewarding way to live my own life. Another way to help support the chapter is through The Legacy Project. Your gift to this annual fund will ensure our legacy at UT for years to come. I hope to see you at a tailgate this fall, or whenever you happen to be in Austin. Feel free to stop by the house and see just what continues to make Texas Alpha stand out above the rest! We hit a record of 172 members at the end of the fall 2021 semester – the largest chapter size in history. With a diverse and vibrant background of membership, the fraternity has continued to see steady and healthy growth over the past four years thanks to the strategic plan and vision set out in 2017 as well as the opening of the new chapter house. Branching Out With the growth of the chapter, the reach to other organizations and opportunities has also grown exponentially as chapter members take on leadership roles within Silver Spurs, Wall Street for McCombs, Jackson Scholars Honors Program, Texas Undergraduate Business Council Longhorn Investment Team and the Texas Interfraternity Council, just to name a few. Texas Alpha Accolades This spring at the annual UT Sorority and Fraternity Life Awards, the chapter was awarded Outstanding Scholastic Excellence for our high academic achievement and promoting the value of scholarship for members both inside and outside the classroom. The chapter encourages members to seek connections with professors, utilize academic support resources and develop academic mentorship among its members. But that's not all, Philanthropy Chairman Mark Von Den Steinen '20 won the Outstanding Service and Philanthropy Award. Awarded to just one fraternity man and one sorority woman each year, this award highlights individuals who are committed to engaging in hands-on service and philanthropy to create tangible support and awareness toward specific causes. We Need You The chapter continues to align with the spirit of The Legacy Project through our desire to highlight our rich, 118-year history at UT. You can help us by contributing your photos, scrapbooks and archival information to place on display at the chapter house. Whenever you are at the chapter house or in Austin, please bring any items/ photos you think would be great additions! Amici, J.T. Tomlin '19 Chapter GP
