For the 77th year, the Rodeo of the
Ozarks "rode" into town June 22-25,
at Parsons Stadium in Springdale.
Along with rootin' for their
favorite riders, getting pony rides,
and watching the parade, kids had
a chance to compete in special
events just for them.
Kids 4 to 7-years-old did some
Mutton Bustin', riding on the
wooly backs of sheep.
It was a bouncy race to the finish
line for 8 to 10-year-olds, who took
part in the "Wild Horse Race," with
bounce horses. Three winners each
night received cash prizes.
Kids 13 and under competed with
their own horses in the junior grand entry.
The top four winners of each night of
the Mutton Bustin' contest came back
on Saturday night for a final competition,
where the top riders each received a large
trophy plus a pair of handmade mutton
bustin' chaps, handmade by Sam Marby, a
long-time rodeo volunteer.
