The Chaffee Crossing Farmers
& Artisans Market (CCFAM) takes
place on the second Saturday of
each month, May through October
in the Chaffee Crossing Historic
District in Fort Smith.
In addition to homegrown fruits
and veggies (yum!) you'll find
homemade goodies and handmade
products, plus food trucks, snacks
and refreshments to enjoy. Every
month there's a different theme,
along with activities for kids and
adults, live music, demonstrations,
and other surprises!
Building a cardboard city: My
city Is a Fort
At the June Chafee Crossing
Farmers Market, kids ages 5-12
built cardboard houses or "forts"
to win prizes! It was LOTS of fun!
This unique contest is original to
Fort Smith. Kids who registered
were assigned to a team of four.
Prizes were awarded in different
age categories and also for the most
creative in general. Construction
took place on the lawn between the
Vietnam Veterans Association
chapter house and Ward Ave.
Fun for all
in Fort Smith!
The theme for the July market
was "American Pie" and included a
pie-eating contest and a pie-baking
contest.
Other upcoming market themes
are:
August 13
dog dAYs of summer
The dog days of summer will
come alive with the first ever
CCFAM "Dog-stume Contest."
Four-legged friends will be strutting
their stuff with fun costumes and
accessories.
Don't miss the photo booth
with your furry friends. By the way,
the market is always a pet friendly
market—watering relief stations,
puppy poo bags and pools to cool
hot paws are placed all around the
market.
And of course there will be a
HOT DOG EATING CONTEST!
Yes, you read it right. How fast can
you cram down those dogs? Mayor
Doug Kinslow from the City of
Greenwood will be the emcee so
you can expect plenty of hot dog
wise cracks.
