Thank you for choosing Alma Animal Clinic. Office: 479-430-7280 Fax: 479-430-7290 ALMA Animal Clinic Large & Small Animal Medicine & Surgery "We divide it up the same on our farm," she said. "The cows are all mine and the chickens are Eddie's. I name all the cows, too. I know you're not supposed to do that but I didn't find that out until it was too late. I can recognize them just by looking at their faces as well." For both Eddie and Brenda, farm life is all about the animals. "We love being with animals," Eddie said. "When they are small babies, they are so cute and you just want to hold and cuddle them. Of course, they all grow up and you gotta turn them loose. And I know my wife just loves how peaceful it is. She loves to sit and watch the sunsets. We know that everybody is different and everybody's got their own things that they like, but we love it right here. And there's always something to do, you never get bored that's for sure." Regarding young people starting out, Eddie had this advice: "I would say work hard and start off small in the begin- ning," he said. "Keep your big goals in mind, but don't bite off more than you can chew that first year. You don't want to get too disappointed or discouraged in the beginning. Also, talk to other expe- rienced farmers. That's important, too." Eddie also believes it's important to stay flexible and receptive to changes in the business. "Keep your mind open to new ideas," he said. "There's a lot of information out there about farming and livestock and you have to read up on it. Don't go into it thinking you know it all right off the bat because you don't. You'll learn something new every year. And if you ever think you learned at all, you're sadly mistaken." Being named Farm Family of the Year for Crawford County took both Eddie and Brenda by surprise. "We were both very excited and surprised, of course," Eddie said. "We are really proud. But I also want to say that there are hundreds of small farms around and I think they are all very deserving. We just work hard at what we do and are very grateful we were even nominated. It's an honor for all the farmers. I know they have to pick just one but, really, I can think of 100 farms who would deserve this honor." "We want to say a big thank you to everyone involved in this program," Brenda added. "I just really appreci- ate even being noticed at all and really thankful for it."
