GFWC - AZ ViSaWen news GFWC-AZ ViSaWen Women's Club News June 2022 STATE CONVENTION For the 129th GFWC Arizona Convention, three GFWC- AZ ViSaWen members, Pat Pisarski, Sharon Kaney and Judie New, traveled to Tucson April 22nd through 24th for a weekend of learning and of course, fun. Sharon Kaney was a fi rst time attendee to the state conven- tion and had a fi rst-rate time. All three attended the Friday night Leader- ship seminar which was led by the 2020/2022 President Luanne Davis. We all found out that if we've been mothers, we can be leaders, and our club would benefi t from our experiences. Guest speakers were Nancy Kirk CFRE, Director of Philanthropy, Ronald McDonald House and Leslie Pike, Manager of Programs and Volunteers Diaper Bank of Southern Arizona. Clubs had been asked to collect and deliver pull tabs for the Ronald Mc- Donald House. Of the 76 pounds of pull tabs collected, 8.5 lbs were contrib- uted by ViSaWen. The Done-In-A-Day project was a collection of diapers for all ages to the Diaper Bank. In other business, the 2022/2024 offi cers were installed, approved proposed Bylaw revisions, and received awards for all the hard work and hours clubs do within their communities. One interesting segment was the presentation of some historical facts about Arizona women's clubs that have occurred over the past 120 years: In 1900 established social change against child labor and created juve- nile courts; in 1903 fought for kindergarten classes in Arizona; 1907-1910 helped charter pensions for Arizona teachers; worked to established librar- ies; in 1920, helped create the Child Welfare Bill and in 1921 established the Child Support system; sold bonds during WWII to build planes; and worked to create the seatbelt law in the 1960's to name only a few mile- stones. CUTLERY Remember the club still has a full stock of RADA cutlery available. Members are present at the Clubhouse, located at 66918 Avenue C, Salome, AZ, each Monday morning for assistance. Or, you may contact Bev Owens (925-550-1362 or 928-859-4947), or Barbara Hymer (702-277- 6891) any time to place an order. We also have handmade quilts in varying sizes for purchase. MEETING DATE GFWC is open to all women who wish to volunteer in pursuit of helping better our community. See any club member for an ap- plication. Dues are only $25 per year. Business meetings occur September through May on the fi rst Thursday, monthly socials are October through April on the third Thursday, and members gather every Monday at 10:00 am to socialize and work on projects throughout the year. May was the last business meeting of the 2021-2022 season. Business that was discussed was for projects either over the summer or prior to the fi rst meeting of the new season. Our next regular business meeting is scheduled for September 1,2022, 1:00 p.m. at our clubhouse, right behind the Mc- Mullen Valley Fire Station. Failing to have a quorum, the fi rst meeting will be moved to October 6th. See you on this fall! Have a safe and wonderful summer. Our moto: Be A Better Woman For A Better Community. Come, be a part of this great organization.
