BY GEORGE DICKIE If you could time travel back in time, what period would you like to be in and why? I would love to, maybe not forever, but I'd love to travel back in time to a less complicated in terms of the sheer mass of people on the planet. I always think of that stat that during the end of the second World War, there was two and a half billion people or just nearing three on the planet, and now, you know, we're heading to seven. Soon, there will be nine, 11, and sometimes, I walk down the street ,or you're in a beautiful park, (and think), "What would this place be like if there wasn't so many people here essentially?" Had you read the novel by Audrey Niffenegger prior to being cast for "The Time Traveler's Wife"? I read the book ages ago when I was at university, actually, and, funnily enough, it was a popular book I think around my first year, and I had a housemate at the time who was really into it, and he had a signed copy of it. And this is, scarily, about 20 years ago, and I remember him saying, "I'm going to option this. I want to make a movie of it," which is funny, because he was just a student with no money, so it's full circle because that student I lived with was Steven Moffat. No, I'm joking. InFocus "American Anthems" (PBS — series premiere, June 24) Some of today's hottest country stars — among them, Jennifer Nettles — salute previously unsung community heroes by literally singing their praises. Each episode follows a different featured country star as he or she meets one of these local heroes and learns what inspired their commitment to make a positive change in the lives of their neighbors.
