The Jay Hernandez-starring CBS reboot was doing well, but not at the sort of ratings level that kept it a sure bet if the network needed space for some of its promising new shows. Also, negotiations reportedly were tough with "Magnum" pro- ducing studio Universal, so it was a question of whether the money spent would justify the returns — with CBS ultimately deciding it wouldn't. It wasn't the same case with the three "FBI" shows, which CBS bought from Uni- versal not just for one more season, but for two. And a P.S. about "Magnum": Tom Selleck, the star of the original version, will outlast it with his "Blue Bloods" going into its 13th CBS season this fall. Q : Is Jared Padalecki OK? The current "Walker" actor reportedly was a pas- senger in a vehicle driven by his cousin in Texas, where it made a turn that sent it across two driveways and into a stone-and-concrete retaining wall, eventually coming to rest against a utility pole. Padalecki tweeted soon after the mishap that he was "on the mend" and hoping to go back to work soon. "Walk- er" has been renewed by The CW for a third season, with the prequel show "Walker: In- dependence" also ordered by the network. Q : What happened to the comedy series that Kenan Thompson had? It seemed like it was gone almost as soon as it came back. — Arnold Hayes, via email A : That's a reasonably accurate observation. Sea- son 2 of NBC's "Kenan" got a somewhat truncated run last January, when two episodes aired each Monday, leading up to the network's February coverage of the Winter Olym- pics — with "American Song Contest" then taking over the Monday slot coming out of the Games. That was all she wrote for "Kenan," since NBC recently canceled the show, which had been in development for quite some time before it premiered. However, Thompson still will have a home at the network if he opts to remain a cast member on "Saturday Night Live," where he currently is the longest-tenured performer in the ensemble.
