T
his year has been rewarding for Phi Psi.
The students are wrapping up another
successful school year in the chapter house at
630 Oxford following a chapter GPA of 3.74
in spring 2021 and 3.64 in fall 2020, which
were first and second among Phi Psi chapters
nationwide respectively.
The National Fraternity is holding a Grand Arch
Council meeting in Indianapolis, Indiana, July
27-31. Dating back to 1855, GAC serves as a
time when brothers gather in a single city to
conduct fraternity business while reflecting on
their bonds of brotherhood. Four alumni officers
will be elected to serve on the Executive
Council. These four alumni will vote, along
with the six District Archons, on fraternity
business until the next GAC is convened.
Michigan Alpha is in District III with chapters
from Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Wisconsin, and
Michigan. More details can be found on page 4
of this newsletter.
We held a virtual Michigan Alpha Founders'
Day event for the second year in a row due to
the pandemic. However, with the number of
cases plummeting, we look forward to having
Founders' Day in person next year. We hope
that you will join us.
Michigan football had one of the best seasons
in recent memory with a Big Ten Conference
championship following a win over Ohio State
at the Big House. Michigan basketball finished
in the Sweet 16. We are looking forward to
more success next year.
This marks the second year of the Michael R.
Etzioni Scholarship provided for leadership in
the chapter and school spirit at the University
of Michigan. Last year's award recipient was
Alex Diaz '18, who was Chapter President in
2020. Our collegians have shown courteousness
and generosity on campus, as exhibited by their
philanthropic endeavors with donations made
to C.S. Mott Children's Hospital, amongst other
organizations.
The chapter house will have 22 live-ins next
year. Housing Corporation looks forward to
continued success with the undergraduates and
welcomes alumni to participate in any way
they can. In particular, we have a vacancy for
Chapter Advisor—please reach out if you are
interested in volunteering with the chapter.
There are a variety of ways to get involved. One
easy way to give back is to join the Canonsburg
Club with a monthly donation of $18.52. These
dollars will permit us to improve the chapter
house for future members, making changes both
big and small.
