THE SOPHON Michigan Alpha Chapter of Phi Kappa Psi Phi Kappa Psi University of Michigan Spring 2022 I am pleased to announce that our chapter is still in great standing. Classes remain in person, social and philanthropy events continue to be successful, and University of Michigan athletics continue to see great success with appearances in the College Football Playoff and the Sweet 16. This year has truly shown that it is Great to Be! Our brothers have been having a great spring on campus. We hosted a wholesome Mother's Weekend, including mother/son painting in our chapter house, bowling, and a tour of the Big House. This was followed by a sunny St. Patrick's Day weekend that included two Michigan basketball victories. These events continue to display the strength of the brotherhood here on campus. Joining Phi Psi this spring are 25 new members from all over the United States who are excited to see all the amazing features that our fraternity has to offer. This puts us at 100 active members. It has been great getting to know our new Phi Psis and spending time with them in person, which is a great improvement from last year's online recruitment. There are many more brotherhood events in store such as paintballing, a brotherhood pig roast, and graduation. These Strengthening Our Brotherhood Michigan Alpha Continues to Grow and Excel will continue to grow the strong bond between underclassmen and upperclassmen. We not only succeed in forming a strong brotherhood, but we excel inside and outside of the classroom as well. Our chapter GPA stands at a 3.7 for another semester, setting the bar as one of the highest-performing fraternities on campus. Many underclassmen are also finding internships across an array of industries, with the help of seniors and alumni. Philanthropy also remains a strong part of our brotherhood. We collaborated with Alpha Phi to host an event with Knowing Noah x CORE to raise money and awareness for mental health and suicide awareness. There was live music, a pig roast, and a speaker. This event raised $3,578. In addition, we raised over $2,000 for Mudbowl, over $700 for Winterfest, and over $2,500 at our Hot Diggity Dog hot dog eating contest. In the future, Brother Mazeed Oluewu '21 and other sophomore brothers plan on organizing a block party to raise funds for his charity, MyTown Support. Mazeed created the fund, and it has already raised over $30,000 to help students of color in the greater Chicago area The pledge class of 2021 spending time with their moms on Mother's Weekend. afford secondary education.
