SPRING 2022 The Squirrel's Nest P S I C H A P T E R O F A L P H A G A M M A D E L T A A T T H E U N I V E R S I T Y O F A L A B A M A T he fabulous party on November 13, 2021, was a wonderful way to celebrate and reconnect with sisters of all ages! The special event also served as a launch for a yearlong recognition of Psi Chapter's milestone anniversary by undergraduate and alumnae members. Two projects are being spearheaded by alumnae. First, Psi's 100-year presence at the University of Alabama will be recognized by placing an Alabama Historical Commission Marker on the front lawn of the sorority house. Psi Chapter's House Association is currently in the application process. Second, with the idea to provide a meaningful connection to Alpha Gamma Delta's emphasis on academic achievement, a campaign to strengthen an existing scholarship named for Margaret Shirley Koster 1921 is being implemented. Many of us remember "Missy" as our chapter advisor. Her devotion and service to Alpha Gamma Delta began as a founding member in 1921 and continued as a member of the Psi executive council for nearly six decades. Missy had the opportunity to pledge other sororities on campus, but she was very drawn to and impressed by Alpha Gamma Delta's emphasis on academic excellence. At a time when few women enrolled in college, Missy completed an undergraduate and graduate degree and was an educator in her professional life. As a fitting memorial, a scholarship was established in her name through the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation. The Margaret Shirley Koster Scholarship has been awarded in 23 of the 30 years it has been established. The current value is $24,239. At this funding level, the award amount is very susceptible to market fluctuations. The award amount is typically $500, which is on the lower end of foundation scholarships. This scholarship is exclusively for Psi Chapter undergraduates, and the award is dispersed directly into the recipient's student account at the University of Alabama and can be used for any academic expense. Please consider a $100 contribution to the Margaret Shirley Koster Scholarship in honor of our chapter's 100th anniversary! While $100 is the goal, any and all donations will make a difference. I cannot think of a more fitting way to honor the legacy of our founding members and the outstanding success of our undergraduates than to support their efforts for excellence in higher education. The Alpha Gamma Delta vision statement is "Inspire the Woman, Impact the World." Together, by contributing to the Margaret Shirley Koster Scholarship, we are taking a tangible step toward ensuring the long-term capability for the scholarship.
