PAGE 46 W hy did you choose to live where you do now? We moved to this area in November of 2018 after spending several years of vacationing in Siesta Key over the Thanksgiving holiday with family. We worked with a wonderful Realtor who was very familiar with the neighborhoods and area. Having just retired, our goal was to find a community that was socially active so we could meet and make new friends easily. We looked from Lakewood Ranch to Venice over the course of two visits. While touring IslandWalk, residents greeted us, welcomed us, and told us what a great community it was. It was a warm and fuzzy feeling from that point on. The charm of the bridges over water, the landscape, amenities, and the home plan sold us on purchasing a home in IslandWalk. Where did you move from? We moved from a small town called Indian Beach on the Southern Outer Banks of North Carolina. What was your occupation before you retired? I owned and operated a real estate firm for 20 years. I still hold my North Carolina license but have no plans to re-enter the Florida market! What hobbies do you have? I love pickleball, golf and kayaking. I also love to read, study Italian, listen to music, and follow my husband Rick's group — "Dually Noted." What new activities have you joined or participated in since your arrival here? Pickleball! I am an avid pickleball player. I love the game itself, the social aspect and the competition. Funny story … just before I left North Carolina, a gen- tleman walked into my real estate firm and asked for a few minutes of my time. As busy as I was, I listened as he introduced himself at the Pickleball Ambassador of the area and requested time with all my brokers to get them inter- ested. I politely blew him off thinking who has time for this? Well, fast forward just three months after that and I was hooked on pickleball. I joined the Pickleball Activities Group when we had just over 100 members and helped it grow to over 550!! It was a two-year commitment and I loved being involved with such a great group of talented people. I recently joined and became certified with our Community Emergency Response Team otherwise known as CERT. I have never been involved in this type of activity. I know it will be challenging and a great way to give back to this wonderful community. Do you attend activities in and around your neighborhood? Absolutely!! Sometimes, I even need to take a day off from the various social activities that are offered. IslandWalk has a great activities director and the talent brought to us is second to none.
