Cinema certainly had its share of movies
about otherworldly creatures by 1979, but
"Alien" genuinely reinvented the genre through
two hours of tension and shocks that literally
sent some moviegoers out of their seats. FXM
presents director Ridley Scott's iconic thriller
Sunday, May 1, following a deep-space crew on a
side mission they didn't expect ... and picking up
an unexpected passenger who then wreaks havoc
aboard their ship.
Sigourney Weaver became an immediate star
as Ripley, the astronaut who has to summon all
her strength to survive the onslaught by the alien
that bursts forth – and that's not a randomly
chosen phrase – to decimate her colleagues. Tom
Skerritt, John Hurt, Yaphet Kotto and Ian Holm
also are on hand, and the artistry of H.R. Giger
is reflected strongly in the picture's production
design.
