Page 10 www.yoursun.com ACADEMIC ALL-STARS By SCOTT ZUCKER SUN SPORTS EDITOR The Daily Sun and Venice Gondolier take the concept of the student-athlete very seriously. Thus, when creating the honors for our annual Sun Preps All-Area awards, we made sure to highlight the achievements of those high school students who treated their academics just as seriously as their athletic endeavors. The Academic All-Star awards honor those students who best combined the two sides of high school life. This year's winners are a pair of seniors from Port Charlotte and Venice High Schools. MICHAEL ROBERTSON, VENICE HIGH In addition to being a four-year standout player for the Venice baseball team, Robertson has been as good in the classroom as he was on the baseball diamond The team captain carried a weighted 4.982 GPA and had his associate's degree by the time he graduated high school, which could pay off as he is expected to be drafted within the top 100 picks of this summer's Major League Baseball Draft. Robertson was also named the 2021 Baseball Player of the Year. LATICIA NINA, PORT CHARLOTTE HIGH Nina has been a volleyball all-area fixture throughout her high school career. Nina graduated third in her class with a 4.491 weighted grade-point average. She has been recognized for her participation in the Captain's Club, D.A.R.T. Club and Interact and has been involved with student government. She has received scholarships from The Kiwanis Foundation of Charlotte County and the Zonta Women's Club and will be headed to the University of Florida in the fall. MICHAEL ROBERTSON LATICIA NINA
