junior meat Goat division This department is open to eligible junior participants as defined in the Benton County Fair General Livestock Rules All general livestock rules of the fair apply to this department. In addition, the exhibitors in this section are subject to the following regulations. 1. All goats must be owned by August 1, 2022 2. All exhibitors must be an acTivE Benton County 4-H or FFA member in Good standing at the time of nomination as well as the fair. 3. Each Jr. Exhibitor may nominate as many meat goats as you wish bUT may show only six (6). Exhibitors are limited to 2 commercial and 3 market. Only 6 goats per Jr. Exhibitor will be permitted. 4. Each Clover bud exhibitor may nominate as many meat goats as you wish BUT show only three. Mixture can include: (1) Market, (1) Commercial (1) Breeding or all three (3) Breeding. remember only 3 goats per clover bud exhibitor! 5. Goats must be of the meat goat variety. No dairy goats allowed. all breeds and crosses of market goats are allowed. Goats may be does or Wethers. 6. Meat goats may enter the Fairgrounds from 4pm to 8pm on Monday Sept 27. All goats will be inspected INSIDE the trailer upon entering the barn area of the Fairgrounds. Any goats showing symptoms of disease (particularly fungus, ringworm, foot rot, sore mouth and scrapie) will be removed from the Fairgrounds. 7. The market goat weigh-in will be Monday, Sept 26 from 4 pm to 8 pm. All goats must be on the Fairgrounds and weighed/checked-in by 8 pm. 8. All goats must have baby teeth (indicator of age being under one year) at the time of Benton Co Fair weigh-in 9. Market goats will be shown by weight. 10. Market goats must weigh a minimum of 50 lbs. at the time of weigh-in. a. The scales used during the weigh-in will be the official scales. b. There will be no early weighing or re- weighing of market goats. c. There will be no maximum weight. 11. Any meat goat weighing UNDER 50lbs will be sent home, no ExcEpTions! (We just do not have the pen space to house these animals). 12. Goats must be dehorned or tipped (any length) for safety reasons or animal will be sent home. 13. Goats used in the showmanship division must be owned by the exhibitor. They must also be entered and shown in the Benton County Fair goat show. 14. Each exhibitor will care for and protect his/her market goat until the conclusion of the Benton County Fair. 15. If you are bringing fewer goats than you originally entered, please contact department superintendent as soon as possible so that stall assignments may be adjusted accordingly prior to the beginning of the fair rather than upon your arrival. 16. Single entries may be penned together. Exhibitors should expect two goats per pen. Exhibitors may have to pen 3 goats to a pen. Exhibitors must provide their own partitions. 17. Exhibitors will be expected to keep their animals fed and with clean water during the entire fair week. Exhibitors are to keep the pens and surrounding areas clean throughout the entire fair week. Pens must be cleaned daily by 9:00am and kept clean throughout the day, in order to participate in the junior livestock auction! 18. All animals will be inspected INSIDE the trailer prior to entering the barn area.
