Below: The Chapter holding a Halloween costume contest at the library. F ebruary kicked off the 2022 spring semester, and we are hitting the ground running. is is the first fully in-person spring semester that we have had since 2019; for most of our active brothers, including me, this "normal" spring semester is the first we have seen. Brothers are thrilled to be back in the full swing of things as we focus on our growing brotherhood, our community, and the state of the Chapter as well as the connections we spark in our four years at MIT and beyond. HOSTING A SUCCESSFUL SPRING RECRUITMENT Spring semester began with recruitment, where we introduced guests to our laser cutter, took a trip to Level 99, and held our annual Super Bowl gathering. We gave out six bids and welcomed in a three-person new member class. All three men are driven and dedicated, and we are certain they are great additions to our growing brotherhood. We formally welcomed our spring initiates on Saturday, April 23, and we are elated to bond, learn, and grow with them. PRIORITIZING COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT Being our first spring semester with a hint of normalcy, Beta Upsilon is reiterating and restructuring efforts to give back to the community. Our new community service chairmen, Colin Tang '23 and Daniel Wang '25, have started up weekly initiatives for the Chapter, such as delivering food and a clothes drive. In addition to weekly initiatives, we are hosting a joint community service event with our brothers at Northeastern University by participating in the Interfraternity Council's second annual BARCC Fundraiser. We also have brothers signed up to volunteer for the Boston Alexander G. Ross '61 Dr. James S. Draper '62 In memory of Booker T. Stanfield Richard M. Harris '63 Jon E. Burkhardt '64 Richard A. We are looking forward to making our mark in the community once again now that COVID-19 regulations allow face-to-face interactions. LOOKING FORWARD TO INSTALLATION All of spring's festivities are rousing excitement amongst brothers in the Main House and Annex, but there's one particular occasion that we are most eager to witness: our formal Installation Ceremony on Saturday, April 30. Almost 10 years ago, our Chapter took a pause, was revived, then ultimately, brought back to life with help from the General Fraternity and the generous support of our alumni during our Centennial Campaign. en, in 2019 at the 180th Convention of Beta eta Pi, Beta Upsilon's prior Chapter president, Luke Hartnett '20, petitioned for and won the reinstatement of our charter. Now, the time has come to hold our ceremony and be formally recognized once again as a Chapter of Beta eta Pi. On behalf of all active Beta Upsilon brothers, we hope that you will join us on April 30 when we celebrate this momentous achievement! You can find more information about this significant event by visiting www.bit.ly/MIT-Beta-Installation. STRENGTHENING CONNECTIONS Beta Upsilon has plenty to be excited about, but we also have a substantial list of work to do. Coming back from the pandemic has shown all of us the importance of forging and strengthening connections with our fellow brothers, and we intend to prioritize those connections. Whether we are learning and conversing with alumni or giving back to the community, I am proud to have a front row seat to watch Beta Upsilon's strength, resilience, and growth in our initiatives and our brotherhood. Yours in _kai_, Ivan Marshall '23 Chapter President
