CityViewNC.com | 5 EDITOR'S CORNER Taking on a new role BY LORRY WILLIAMS Contact Lorry Williams at lwilliams@cityviewnc.com or at 910-423-6500. I t seems a bit odd to introduce myself because I've been working as a reporter and editor in this community for about 35 years. Nearly all of that time was with e Fayetteville Observer, where I was a reporter for many years and later the executive editor. (e first woman to hold that position, by the way.) And as some of you know, I started working for CityView Media in November to launch its news division, CityView TODAY. And now I'm overseeing CityView Magazine. I've long admired the magazine and worked with many of its previous editors, including Kim Hasty. I know there can be uncertainty when someone new comes in, but rest assured we're still committed to covering stories that matter in our community, the people, organizations and events that li your spirits or inspire. You'll learn more about me in the coming months, and I look forward to learning more about you, as well. Feel free to reach out with story ideas or to offer feedback. The faith issue In this issue, we look at some of the faith organizations and people who impact our community every day through their outreach programs and their commitment to helping others. Whether it's packing meals to make sure children in school have food for the weekend or raising money to help with mission trips in other countries, volunteers and members of congregations in our community are committed to helping others. We've seen it when disaster hits and teams spread out to help clean up homes damaged by storms, or groups gather to distribute water and food. ey are there to help new moms as well as seniors. In talking with different faith leaders, there was a common focus that came up repeatedly: community. "God put us on this earth to be a community and help people,'' Lauren Fletcher, the executive assistant to the lead and senior pastors at Manna Church on Cliffdale Road told Michael Futch. Imam Bobby omas at Mosque Masjid Omar Ibn Sayyid told us that when COVID-19 forced so many changes over the past few years, they never thought about shutting down their food distribution program. "e community needed that program, so we continued it," he said. ese are just a few of the faith leaders and groups that are making a difference in our community. Whether it's packing meals to make sure children in school have food for the weekend or raising money to help with mission trips in other countries, volunteers and members of congregations in our community are committed to helping others.
